The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team was defeated by the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence this afternoon from the Campbell Sports Center, 89-66. The loss sets the Panthers at 4-14 on the season and 2-6 in Skyline Conference play while Sarah Lawrence improves to 19-7 (7-1 Skyline).
Joel Ofori led Old Westbury with 14 points and eight rebounds while adding a block.
Josh Minton also netted 14 points, going 5-of-8 from the field with three three-pointers.
Yigit Balta had four assists while
Imole Akinwale had three to go with a team-leading four steals.Â
The lead would change hands 10 times in the opening 10 minutes. Tied at 18, the Gryphons would net three-straight three-pointers. Maintaining the nine-point lead for the next two minutes, Old Westbury would work the score within five, 31-26, with four points from Ofori. Sarah Lawrence ended the final 3:30 of the first half on a 14-4 run to lead 45-30 at the break. The home team would lead by 20 points for nearly the entire second half en route to the victory.Â
The Panthers will be back in action at home from the Clark Athletic Center on Thursday, January 29 at 7:00 pm against Manhattanville.Â
