OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The Old Westbury men's soccer team used a strong second-half performance to rally past St. Joseph's University Brooklyn, 3-1, Tuesday evening at Panther Park.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Old Westbury broke through just 41 seconds into the second half. Alvaro Arroyo put the Panthers ahead at 45:41, scoring off an assist from Ian Martinez.
St. Joseph's answered in the 53rd minute when Matthew Cottone found the back of the net to even the contest at 1-1.
The Panthers continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, generating 19 shots after halftime and earning 12 corner kicks.
Old Westbury regained the lead in the 77th minute when Marius Wassend scored off a pass from Alexander Joergensen. Just over seven minutes later, Youssef Bellantone added an insurance goal at 84:23, once again assisted by Joergensen, to make it a 3-1 contest.
The Panthers take on Maritime on the road at 7:30 on October 9.
