The SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball team suffered a loss to the University of Mount Saint Vincent, 64-49, in a Skyline Conference match up Monday night from the Clark Athletic Center.
Despite the loss, the Panthers received strong performances throughout the contest. Sophomore guard
Sakhmet Lewis provided the offensive spark for Old Westbury, totaling 19 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward
Endya Greene followed with 17 points and four rebounds while senior forward
Korrina Plair just missed a double-double at eight points and 13 rebounds.
Old Westbury kept the game competitive early, trailing by just four points after the opening quarter. Momentum shifted in the second frame with the visiting Dolphins outscoring the Panthers, 17-6 to lead 32-17 at the break. The home team's offense came to life in the third frame, shooting just under 59 percent from the field to trim the deficit to as little as four, 44-40, headed into the final 10 minutes. Things stalled for the Panthers in the fourth quarter, netting just nine points while giving up 20 to give UMSV the win.
Old Westbury will respond on the road on Wednesday, February 18 on the road at St. Joseph's Brooklyn at 6:00 PM.
