Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Ofori Shines in Men's Basketball Loss to Maritime

The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team was defeated by SUNY Maritime on Wednesday from the Clark Athletic Center, 76-61. Old Westbury falls to 8-17 on the season and 6-9 in Skyline Conference play headed into the final game of the regular season, fighting for a playoff spot. Maritime sits at 13-11 (9-6 Skyline) with the victory.

Despite trailing from open to close, a double-double of 25 points and 21 rebounds from Joel Ofori was a bright spot for the Panthers. Ofori shot 10-of-23 from the field and also put up five blocks in the effort. Jermaine King Jr. had 12 points. Imole Akinwale and Stephon Rosch Kouassi each had three assists and four rebounds.

The Panthers kept it close until a 16-4 run from the Privateers broke open the contest at 24-10 with 12 minutes to play in the first half. Old Westbury would trail by 12 at the halftime break, 38-26.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Bradley Young paired with a layup from Akinwale and foul shot from Rosch Kouassi made it a five-point game to start the second half, 40-35. The Panthers shot much more efficiently in the second half of action, going 12-of-24 from the field, but could not overcome the slow start.

The regular season will end on February 21 at home against St. Joseph's Long Island at 2:00 pm from the Clark Athletic Center.
