Panthers Split Doubleheader with Colby-Sawyer at Myrtle Beach Spring Break Games

Panthers rebound with 14–1 victory in game two after dropping opener 3–1

Myrtle Beach, SC – Following dominant 13-0 and 12-3 doubleheader victories over Lehman College on March 8, the SUNY Old Westbury baseball team returned to action this weekend traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to compete in the Myrtle Beach Spring Break Games. The Panthers opened their spring trip against Colby-Sawyer College, splitting the doubleheader after falling 3-1 in game one before bouncing back with a 14-1 victory in game two.
Game One
Colby-Sawyer 3, Old Westbury 1

Game one of the doubleheader featured a tight defensive contest between both teams as runs were difficult to come by early in the game.

Colby-Sawyer struck first in the bottom of the first inning, using an RBI single from Mike McLeer to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Panthers responded in the top of the second inning, when JT Torres delivered an RBI single to bring home JJ Palumbo, tying the game at 1-1.

Both teams remained locked in a pitching duel until the sixth inning, when the Chargers capitalized on timely hitting to plate two runs, taking a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish.

Old Westbury finished the game with four hits, led by JT Torres, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Brandon Hernandez and Mike Tiseo each added a hit to round out the Panthers offense.

The Panthers remained aggressive on the basepaths as Brandon Hernandez recorded a stolen base, while Angelo Velez added a sacrifice hit to move runners into scoring position.

Despite the loss, Old Westbury's pitching staff kept the Panthers within reach, limiting Colby-Sawyer to three runs on eight hits while striking out seven batters.

Game Two

The Panthers responded in dominant fashion in the second game of the doubleheader, delivering one of their strongest offensive performances of the season in a 14-1 victory.

Old Westbury's lineup exploded for 14 runs on 13 hits, jumping out to an early lead and maintaining offensive pressure throughout the game.

Leading the charge offensively was Donny Whalen, who turned in a standout performance going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored.

JT Torres continued his strong day at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Mike Petrucelly also played a major role in the Panthers offensive surge, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Mike Tiseo added two hits and two RBIs.

James Reilly delivered another key moment for Old Westbury with a home run and four RBIs, helping break the game open.

On the mound, Louis Pizzileo delivered a strong outing, helping hold the Chargers to one run on four hits while striking out multiple batters to secure the win.

The Panthers also remained active on the basepaths as Mike Tiseo recorded a stolen base, while Brandon Hernandez was hit by a pitch to help extend innings.

Old Westbury will continue play at the Myrtle Beach Spring Break Games on Sunday, March 15, when the Panthers take on Ursinus College. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
