Panthers battle late but fall to Clarkson in Florida

Uribe drives in two as Old Westbury scores three runs in the fifth inning

Clermont, Fla. — The SUNY Old Westbury softball team continued its Florida Spring Games trip on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Clarkson University, 13-5.

With the loss, the Panthers moved to 0-3 on the season, while the Golden Knights improved to 2-6.

Old Westbury opened the game tied with Clarkson, 1-1, after the first inning. The Golden Knights then used a five-run second inning to build momentum before adding six more runs in the third to take control of the contest.

The Panthers added another run in the third inning and showed resilience late, putting together their strongest offensive stretch in the fifth inning with three runs. Old Westbury also held Clarkson scoreless in the fourth inning before the Golden Knights added one final run in the fifth.

Despite the loss, the Panthers showed resilience at the plate, scoring five runs on five hits while adding pressure on the basepaths with two stolen bases. Old Westbury also closed the game with its best offensive inning, scoring three runs in the fifth.

Camila Uribe led the Panthers offensively, finishing 1-for-3 with a team-high two RBI. Ashley Pierce went 1-for-2 with an RBI double and a walk, while Yelina Arias added an RBI and one hit. Madison Muehling and Arianna Valle also recorded hits for Old Westbury. Aliya Feerick and Valle each stole a base in the contest.

Old Westbury's five hits came from Ashley Pierce, Camila Uribe, Yelina Arias, Madison Muehling, and Arianna Valle. The Panthers' five runs were scored by Aliya Feerick, Olivia Toto, Phylicia Cangemi, and Amanda Varela Arianna Valle

Old Westbury will look to regroup as the Panthers continue Spring Games play against Edgewood University on Thursday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m.
