OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Coming off a straight-set Skyline Conference victory over Purchase College and carrying momentum into the middle of the week, the SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team continued its two-match homestand Wednesday evening at the Clark Athletic Center. Taking on the University of Mount Saint Vincent, the Panthers put together another strong all-around effort and surged past the Dolphins in straight sets, 3-0, by scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-21.
Old Westbury came out sharp in the opening set, jumping ahead early and controlling the tempo throughout. The Panthers built separation behind strong play at the net and timely offense, going on to claim the first frame, 25-16.
With momentum on its side, Old Westbury again opened quickly in the second set and held a sizeable lead before Mount Saint Vincent battled back. The Dolphins eventually tied the set at 22, but the Panthers stayed composed late and closed things out to take a 25-23 win and a 2-0 match advantage.
Trying to complete the sweep, the Panthers put together another efficient offensive showing in the third set. Old Westbury totaled 13 kills in the frame and held off the Dolphins down the stretch to secure the 25-21 set win and finish off the straight-set victory.
As a team, the Panthers did two things especially well in the win. First, Old Westbury was highly efficient offensively, recording 32 kills on a .314 hitting percentage. Second, the Panthers were strong defensively at the net, totaling 10 block assists and disrupting the Dolphins' rhythm in key moments throughout the match.
Julius Morales led the Panthers with 10 kills while hitting .391, and Torrence Fredericks added eight kills on a .444 hitting percentage to go along with five block assists. Ashel Santos turned in a balanced performance with five kills, nine assists, and seven digs, while Lucas Rogers dished out 14 assists, added two service aces, and recorded a team-high 11 digs. Jason Giles chipped in four kills and one ace, and Kevin Alarcon added eight digs in the victory.
With the win, Old Westbury improved to 8-8 overall and 5-6 in Skyline Conference play.

The Panthers will now regroup and return to action on Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Yeshiva University for a Skyline Conference matchup.
