Panthers spoil Yeshiva Senior Day with straight-set Skyline sweep

Fredericks leads the way with 14 kills as Old Westbury extends win streak to three

New York, N.Y. — The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team made it three straight wins on Thursday night, sweeping Yeshiva University in straight sets on the road, 25-12, 25-20, 25-21, in Skyline Conference action.

Coming off a dominant 3-0 victory over the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday at the Clark Athletic Center, the Panthers carried that momentum into Thursday's match and spoiled Yeshiva's Senior Day with another strong all-around performance. With the win, Old Westbury now improves to 9-8 overall and 6-6 in Skyline Conference play.

Old Westbury came out strong in the opening set and immediately took control behind efficient attacking and solid defensive play. The Panthers never let Yeshiva settle in, using a balanced offensive attack and steady passing to roll to a solid 25-12 first-set win.

The second set was much more competitive, as Yeshiva responded with greater energy on its home floor and kept things close for much of the frame. Old Westbury, however, stayed composed and used timely points and smart play at the net to pull away late and secure a 25-20 win, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, the Panthers once again had to fight through a tighter battle as Yeshiva looked to extend the match on Senior Day. Old Westbury answered the challenge with another poised effort, getting key kills and defensive stops at the right moments before finishing off the Maccabees, 25-21, to complete the straight-set sweep.

As a team, the Panthers did several things well in the victory. Old Westbury finished with 33 kills and 31 assists while also recording 57 digs, showing both offensive production and strong back-row defense. The Panthers were also consistent throughout the match, winning all three sets while limiting mistakes and maintaining control in key late-set moments.

Torrence Fredericks led Old Westbury offensively with a match-high 14 kills. Jason Giles added seven kills, while Luke Vetack chipped in five kills and Julius Morales added four. Shane Kielb also contributed three kills in the win.

At setter, Lucas Rogers facilitated the Panthers offense with 21 assists and added two service aces. Defensively, Kevin Alarcon turned in a standout effort with a team-high 20 digs, while Morales added 14 digs. Ashel Santos contributed eight digs, and Fredericks finished with five digs to help anchor the defensive effort.
