Panthers drop Senior Day finale to Manhattanville

Giles posts six kills while Gilmartin and Santos are honored in regular-season home finale

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Surging with momentum and carrying a three-match win streak into the night with victories over Purchase College, the University of Mount Saint Vincent, and Yeshiva University, the SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team returned to action at the Clark Athletic Center on Monday afternoon for a Skyline Conference matchup against Manhattanville University. Prior to the match, the Panthers also celebrated Senior Day, recognizing seniors Stephen Gilmartin and Ashel Santos for their hard work, dedication, and impact on Old Westbury men's volleyball during their time with the program. Old Westbury ultimately fell to the Valiants in straight sets, 25-19, 25-14, 25-15.

In the opening set, the Panthers battled early and stayed within striking distance as both teams traded points through the first half of the frame. Old Westbury remained competitive, but Manhattanville used a strong offensive push late in the set to create separation and close out a 25-19 win.

The second set saw the Valiants carry that momentum over, as Manhattanville got into rhythm offensively and controlled the pace. Old Westbury continued to compete and look for answers, but the visitors were able to limit long Panther runs and secured the set by a score of 25-14.

In the third set, Old Westbury looked to extend the match and showed fight throughout the frame. The Panthers continued to battle for points and got contributions on both the offensive and defensive ends, but Manhattanville was able to maintain control and eventually completed the straight-set victory with a 25-15 win.

Despite the loss, Old Westbury did two things well as a team. First, the Panthers remained active defensively with 23 digs in the match. Second, Old Westbury got solid individual production at the net, including 19 total kills and three team blocks.

Jason Giles led the Panthers offensively with six kills while hitting .545. Ashel Santos and Torrence Fredericks each added five kills, while Julius Morales chipped in two kills. Lucas Rogers recorded 13 assists and six digs, and Damian Villamil also contributed six digs defensively.
