Panthers Sweep Doubleheader Against Mount Saint Vincent in Skyline Play

Petrucelly powers Panthers with eight RBIs across doubleheader sweep of Dolphins

OLD WESTBURY, NY — The SUNY Old Westbury baseball team earned a Skyline Conference doubleheader sweep over Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex, taking Game One 8-3 before outlasting the Dolphins in a high-scoring 13-12 Game Two victory.

Game One: Old Westbury 8, Mount Saint Vincent 3

Old Westbury opened the day with a strong all-around performance, using timely hitting and solid pitching to secure an 8-3 victory.

The Panthers struck early in the first inning as Mike Petrucelly delivered a two-RBI double to bring home JJ Palumbo and JT Torres. Palumbo continued his strong day at the plate in the second inning with an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.

Mount Saint Vincent responded by tying the game in the fourth inning, but Old Westbury quickly regained control in the bottom half of the fifth. Mike Tiseo delivered a clutch two-RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Chris Bartnik to push the lead to 6-3.

Old Westbury added two more runs in the sixth inning, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning and an RBI double from Tiseo to seal the win.

Vinny Giambona earned the victory on the mound, while Dennis Lynch recorded the save.

Offensively, the Panthers tallied 10 hits. Palumbo led the way with three hits, while Tiseo drove in a team-high three RBIs. Petrucelly added two RBIs, and Torres scored three runs at the top of the lineup.

Game Two: Old Westbury 13, Mount Saint Vincent 12

Game Two turned into an offensive battle, as the Panthers outlasted the Dolphins in a 13-12 thriller to complete the sweep.

After falling behind early, Old Westbury erupted for four runs in the third inning, highlighted by home runs from Mike Petrucelly and James Reilly to take the lead.

The Dolphins answered back with multiple scoring innings, but the Panthers continued to respond. In a pivotal fourth inning, Old Westbury plated five runs, with Petrucelly delivering a three-run home run and Palumbo adding an RBI single.

Mount Saint Vincent kept the pressure on, scoring in the sixth inning to regain the lead, but Old Westbury once again answered. The Panthers pushed across key runs late, including a sacrifice fly from Tiseo to even the score before taking the lead for good.

Offensively, Old Westbury totaled 12 hits in Game Two. Petrucelly led the charge with six RBIs, while Palumbo added two hits and an RBI. Reilly contributed with a home run and two RBIs, and Torres added two hits at the top of the order.

Jimmy Stroehlein earned the win in relief, while Tim Camier recorded the save to secure the sweep.

What's Next?

Old Westbury will return to action on Sunday, April 12, hosting St. Joseph's University Long Island for a Skyline Conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
