Panthers drop Skyline doubleheader on road to Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.)

Old Westbury falls 7-2 in game one and 7-2 in game two in Newburgh

Old Westbury, NY - The SUNY Old Westbury softball dropped both games of its Skyline Conference doubleheader against Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) on the road Saturday afternoon. The Panthers fell 7-2 in game one and 7-2 in game two.

Game 1: Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) 7, Old Westbury 2

Mount Saint Mary broke through in the second inning with two runs before Old Westbury answered in the third. Jessica Feerick singled to center field to bring home Aliya Feerick and cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Panthers pulled even in the sixth when Ashley Pierce connected on a solo home run to make it a 2-2 game. Mount Saint Mary responded in the bottom half of the inning, however, scoring five runs to take control and secure the 7-2 win.

Aliya Feerick led Old Westbury offensively in the opener with three hits and one run scored. Jessica Feerick added two hits and an RBI, while Ashley Pierce finished with two hits, including a home run, and one RBI. Amanda Varela also recorded a hit for the Panthers.

What the Panthers did well?
One thing Old Westbury did well in game one was put consistent pressure on the offense, totaling eight hits in the contest. The Panthers also got production from the top of the lineup, with Aliya Feerick, Jessica Feerick, and Pierce combining for seven of the team's eight hits.

Game 2: Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) 7, Old Westbury 2

In game two, Old Westbury once again battled on the road but came up short as Mount Saint Mary completed the sweep with another 7-2 victory.

The Panthers continued to compete throughout the afternoon and were able to push across two runs, but Mount Saint Mary did enough offensively to hold control and finish off the doubleheader sweep.

Old Westbury did a good job continuing to battle despite the setback and stayed active offensively across both games of the twinbill. The Panthers also showed resilience by continuing to put pressure on Mount Saint Mary throughout the day.

What's Next?

The Panthers returns home on Apr. 18 for a Skyline Conference doubleheader against Sarah Lawrence College. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
