OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer team battled Purchase College to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Panther Park.
Old Westbury struck first in the 12th minute when Camryn Volpe found the back of the net off a free kick to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Old Westbury carried the advantage into halftime despite Purchase recording several opportunities during the opening 45 minutes.
Purchase continued to pressure in the second half, but the Panthers' defense and goalkeeper Kristen Gallagher kept the visitors off the scoreboard for much of the period. Gallagher finished the contest with six saves.
Old Westbury continued to create chances of its own, finishing with a 24-11 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. Purchase goalkeeper Jill Creegan made seven saves to keep the Panthers from extending their lead.
With time winding down, Purchase found the equalizer in the 90th minute when Saige Navara scored at 89:08 off a free kick, resulting in a 1-1 final.
The Panthers take on Manhattanville on Wednesday September 23 at 4PM at the Panther Park.
