Prior to Old Westbury, Atan served as recruiting coordinator at Suffolk County Community College (2009- 10), where he delivered the talent to capture the 2009 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Regional Championship, followed by a championship round appearance in 2010.

Atan has spent summers coaching talented pro prospects from the ranks of Division I, II and III levels along with junior college All-Americans. He resides in West Islip, New York, with his son Steven, who was a member of Old Westbury's baseball team during the 2009 season.
