The 2019 season marks the first season for Patrick Shortt as assistant baseball coach at SUNY Old Westbury.
"I haveĀ been blessed to have baseball as a major part of my life from the amateur, high school, collegiate and professional ranks,ā said Shortt.Ā āI look forward to getting back within the collegiate environment working with the fine members of the SUNY Old Westbury baseball program."

Shortt brings a plethora of baseball coaching and playing experience to Old Westbury. Ā He began his collegiate playing career at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) level for Eastern Arizona College from 1979-80. Ā Shorrt was selected by the Houston Astros in the 1980 MLB Draft prior to transferring to Lamar University, where he played from 1980-82. Ā
From 1982-83, Shortt pitched in Stockton, California for the Stockton Ports, the Class A-advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.
In 1984, Shortt was named assistant baseball coach at Lamar, where he coached until 1985. Ā During his stint at LU, Shortt was responsible for scouting and recruiting out-of-state high school and junior college players. Ā
Shortt continued his playing and coaching careers in the summer of 1986 for the Salt Lake City Trappers of the Pioneer League, where he pitched and held the title of pitching coach.
In 1987, Shortt served as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). Ā He would hold the position at NYIT until 1990, when he began a career in scouting by relocating to Ontario, California to become a member of the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau (MLBSB). Ā Shortt spent 24 years (1990-2014) evaluating the performances of high school and college amateur players as a northeast area scout. From 2015-16, Shortt worked as a scout for the Atlanta Braves.
Shortt graduated Eastern Arizona in 1981 with an associateās degree in general education before receiving his bachelorās degree in physical and health education from Lamar in 1985.Ā Currently residing in South Hempstead, New York.Ā Shortt and his wife, Carmen, have a son Joseph, who was a pitcher at Daytona Community College before transferring to Western Kentucky University.Ā
