John Garrett

John Garrett is in his second season as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Old Westbury.  Last year, he helped guide the Panthers to a 12-15 overall record and 9-6 Skyline mark.

Garrett’s duties as assistant coach include guard development and overall defensive strategies.  An advocate of an aggressive defensive style, Garrett’s influence could be seen last year, as the Panthers led the Skyline Conference in forced turnovers in 2004-05.

Off the court, Garrett is responsible for film exchange, scouting, and assists in all other aspects of the day-to-day operation of the men’s basketball program.
In addition to his men’s basketball duties, Garrett serves as the Old Westbury Athletic Department’s equipment manager, and is the head coach of both the men’s and women’s cross country teams.
Prior to Old Westbury, Garrett spent three years at Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie, NY coaching volleyball, boys soccer, boys basketball and baseball.  In his final season with the Lions, Garrett served as the Head Coach of the Girls Volleyball, Boys Basketball and Baseball teams, leading all three teams to the league championship game.
Garrett is a native of Queens, NY.  He attended St. Francis Prep in Fresh Meadows before earning a history degree from Marist College in 2003.  He is currently pursuing a masters degree in Sports Management from Adelphi University.
