Maerki, a 1983 graduate from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications, brings substantial knowledge of the game to the Panthers.

After college, Maerki pursued a professional golf career, where he played on several tours from 1985-95 including the North Florida PGA Tour, J.C. Goosie Tour and Tommy Armour Tour.  Since 1997, Maerki has been competing as an amateur in MGA, LIGA and USGA tournaments and was the 2013 Havermeyer Invitational Senior Champion.

In addition to his playing experience, Maerki has been involved with the game of golf for more than 28 years.  Maerki held the position as PGA Assistant for the Hauppauge Country Club from 1985-91 before moving onto the Golden Bear Sky Drive as their teaching professional in 1991.  From 1992-97, Maerki was the owner/partner of two separate golf retail stores offering equipment, custom fitting, clothing, accessories, club services and golf lessons before taking over ownership for Long Island Putting Greens from 2000-04.

Maerki then formed the Honors Junior Golf Association, a not-for-profit organization that provided junior golfers the opportunity to participate in 36-hole, nationally ranked tournaments, where he managed all aspects of planning, organizing and hosting a golf tournament.  In his new role with the Metropolitan Golf Association, Maerki assists in the execution of hosting MGA Championships.

Maerki, a 1978 graduate of West Islip High School, resides in Brightwaters, New York, with his wife Linda and their three children, sons Jack and Ian, and daughter Kerry.  Jack was a four-year member of the University of Utah’s men’s golf team (2011-15).
