Anthony Alfaro joined the women’s basketball coaching staff at SUNY Old Westbury in the 2023-24 season as an assistant coach.
Alfaro comes to SUNY Old Westbury after spending four years at Five Towns College as the head coach of the women’s basketball program. There, Alfaro was able to rebuild the roster by recruiting and guiding a strong group of high character players to win the college's first ever HVIAC Women's Basketball Championship as well as a bid to the USCAA Women's National Championship Tournament in his first full season at the helm after the pandemic
Before his time at Five Towns College, Alfaro spent two years coaching girls varsity basketball at Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School in Brooklyn, NY. At the helm, Alfaro helped to develop 5 CHSAA All-Stars and prepare his team for the world of collegiate athletics. Alfaro also has coaching experience at LaGuardia Community College in Queens, NY where he helped his team excel both on and off the court, achieving the highest team GPA in the 2015-2016 season.Under his guidance, LaGuardia won the college's first women's basketball championship: The 2016 CUNY Athletic Conference Women’s Community College Basketball Championship. Alfaro has done work off the court and in the community with his teams including incorporating the Play 4 Kay Women’s Cancer Awareness Program.
In 2012-2013, Alfaro was brought in as the head coach at the Avenues the World School in New York, NY. During the team's inaugural season, Alfaro helped guide the group to an 11-5 winning record.
Other coaching stints include time at Vaughn College of Aeronautics & Technology, Globe Institute of Technology, Seton Hall University Elite Basketball Camp, and Archbishop Molloy High School.
Alfaro graduated from St. John’s University with a degree in accounting. He has served as the CEO & Directing Manager of Alfaro Motors 241 in Queens, NY since 1986.
Alfaro has been married to his wife Diana for 34 years. Together, they have three children, Anthony, Christina, and Christopher.
