SUNY Old Westbury director of athletics Lenore J. Walsh announced the hiring of Chris Sacco as the new compliance coordinator on August 31, 2016. Sacco previously served as the graduate assistant in the athletic compliance office at St. John’s University from 2014 to 2016.
In his capacity, Sacco will be responsible for all compliance administration related to the Panthers’ 13 NCAA Division III sports.
“I am excited to become a member of the SUNY Old Westbury community and would like to thank Lenore Walsh for this opportunity,” said Sacco. “I look forward to continuing my development as a professional and bringing my passion for sport to the athletic department."
As a graduate assistant at St. John’s, Sacco was primarily responsible for managing the NCAA/Big East Student-Athlete Opportunity Fund that assisted student-athletes with academic and athletic expenses not covered by scholarship. He also assisted with the monitoring of compliance with the NCAA and aided in the education and enforcement of the Big East and NCAA Division I rules and regulations. Sacco prepared NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) and NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) reports for senior level administrators. Additionally, Sacco drafted weekly student-athlete eligibility reports for coaches and administrators as well as conducting exit interviews for graduating and transferring student-athletes.
Sacco gained Major League Lacrosse experience in 2013 working as a summer intern for the New York Lizards, where he assisted in game day operations and clerical work.
Since 2013, Sacco has served as assistant coach for the Long Island Arrows Youth Hockey Organization Midget Minor AA team.
The Bellmore, New York native is a graduate of Kellenberg High School.
