PANTHERS FALL TO MOUNT SAINT MARY

NEWBURGH, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury
Women's Basketball team fell to Mount Saint Mary on Saturday
afternoon, 80-43 to open their conference schedule. The
Panthers fall to 1-1 on the season and are now 0-1 in conference
play while Mount Saint Mary is now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in
conference action.
Pamela Robinson netted a team-high 17 points while Mount Saint
Mary out rebounded the Panthers 54-33, which included 19 offensive
boards. Old Westbury took their lone lead of the game, 7-6,
at the 15:20 mark in the first half when Mount Saint Mary went on a
35-17 run to close out the half. Mount Saint Mary out shot
its opponent from the floor on the afternoon, sinking 47 percent of
its shots, while the Panthers hit 23 percent of their shots.
Mount Saint Mary capitalized on Old Westbury's 5 of 29 second half
shooting, by generating a 21-0 run to take a commanding 71-34 lead
with 8:35 remaining in the game. The two teams combined for
38 turnovers, while Mount Saint Mary handed out 27 assists and Old
Westbury dished out 7.
Ashley Freeman tallied 11 points and Shameeka Bryan finished
with 6 rebounds, 5 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Robinson
connected on 11 of 15 shots from the charity stripe. Sharifa
Graham pulled down 5 rebounds and nabbed 3 steals.
Jackie Markert was one of three players in double figures for
Mount Saint Mary with 20 points on 9 of 11 shooting. Vanessa
Lawson added 13 points and Shannon Sangster finished with 13
points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Old Westbury returns to action on Tuesday, December
4th at the Clark Athletic Center for a conference
match-up with Mount Saint Vincent. Tip-off is slated for 6:00
