PANTHERS HIT GROWTH SPURT WITH BIG WIN OVER MOUNT SAINT

NEWBURGH, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury
Men's Basketball team opened their conference schedule on the road
defeating Mount Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon, 65-63.
Divine Jackson lifted the Panthers to victory with a go ahead
lay-up with 18 seconds to go in the game, giving Old Westbury the
64-63 lead. Eddie Hood knocked down one of two free-throws to
give Old Westbury a two point cushion for the 65-63 final.
Old Westbury improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in conference action
while Mount Saint Mary falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in conference
play.
Despite being outscored 14-4 over the final 5:04, the Panthers
held strong to score the final three points, earning a hard fought
conference victory. Ian Johnson led the way with a game-high
21 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the floor including 5 of 6 from
beyond the arc. Lester Prosper had a breakout performance,
posting a double-double with a career-high 18 points, 11 rebounds
(6 offensive) and 5 blocks. Garthlette James finished with a
game-high 8 assists to go along with 7 points, 2 steals and 1
block. Divine Jackson's go ahead lay-up helped him tally 5
points to go with 4 boards. Alanzo Phillips added 6 rebounds.
Mount Saint Mary was led by Chris Harrison's double-double, 16
points, 13 rebounds (7 offensive) in addition to 5 blocks and 2
steals. Alex Kuchar added 12 points and 4 assists.
Old Westbury out shot its opponent from the floor, connecting on
51 percent of its shots in the second half, while Mount Saint Mary
hit 37 percent. The two teams combined for 25 turnovers,
while Old Westbury handed out 15 assists and Mount Saint Mary
dished out 9.
Old Westbury returns to action on Tuesday, November
4th to host Mount Saint Vincent. Tip-off is slated
