PANTHER SOFTBALL SWEPT IN CONFERENCE DOUBLE-HEADER AT MOUNT SAINT MARY

NEWBURGH, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Softball team lost two games to Skyline Conference opponent, Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Field.  Old Westbury dropped game one, 7-4 followed by a close 7-4 loss in the series finale.  Old Westbury moves to 9-9 overall and 1-5 in league play while Mount Saint Mary College improves to 7-15 on the season and 6-2 in Skyline Conference action.

Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Maria Canino (2-for-3) and Nicole Rescigno (2-for-3) led the Panthers with a pair of hits.  Canino hit a couple of singles and scored one run while Rescigno singled and doubled to drive in Canino and Jessica Stoddard (1-for-2, 2B).  Deborah Ciccarelli (1-for-3) and Traci Weeks (1-for-3) each doubled.

Blue Knights at the plate (Game 1): Sarah Johnson (2-for-3) and Jennifer Weiner (2-for-3) led the Blue Knights with a pair of singles.  Johnson scored one run and Weiner scored two runs and drove in Jacqueline Governale (0-for-2) from third base in the fourth inning.  Christine DelPiano (1-for-2), Christina Maiocco (0-for-3) and Regina Ammirati (0-for-2) each scored one run while Maiocco drove in one Blue Knight.

Panthers on the mound (Game 1): Deborah Ciccarelli (7-12) lost a tough decision despite giving up three earned runs (7 runs) over six innings in the circle.  Ciccarelli struck out two batters and allowed six hits and two walks.  

Blue Knights on the mound (Game 1): Erin Dammermuth (3-5) was credited with the victory after tossing a complete game.  Dammermuth pitched seven innings and scattered seven hits and gave up two earned runs while striking out six. 

Game notes (Game 1): Old Westbury out-hit Mount Saint Mary, 7-6, including a 4-3 advantage in the extra base hits department.  On the base path, Old Westbury stranded four Panthes while Mount Saint Mary stole three bases and left three on base.  On the defensive front, Old Westbury committed three errors as Mount Saint Mary turned two double plays and were flawless in the field.  On the mound, Old Westbury struck out two batters and walked two while Mount Saint Mary had six strikeouts and zero walks.

Panthers at the plate (Game 2): Maria Canino (2-for-4), Ashley Esposito (2-for-4, SB) and Deborah Ciccarelli (2-for-4) clubbed two singles and scored one run apiece to lead the Panthers.  Esposito drove in Jessica Stoddard (0-for-3) in the sixth inning.  Crystal Rodriguez (1-for-3) and Traci Weeks (0-for-2, BB) each drove home one Panthers while Rodriguez singled.  Angela Adamkiewicz (0-for-2) reached base on two walks.         

Blue Knights at the plate (Game 2): Jacqueline Governale (2-for-4), Sarah Johnson (2-for-3) and Regina Ammirati (2-for-2) each collected two hits to lead the Blue Knights past Old Westbury.  Governale drove in two runs and scored one while Johnson drove in one and Ammirati scored two runs.  Christina DelPiano (1-for-2) doubled in two Blue Knights and scored one as Jennifer Weiner (1-for-3) and Carolyn Hunt (0-for-3, RBI, SB) each scored one run.     

Panthers on the mound (Game 2): Deborah Ciccarelli (7-13) threw one inning of work and was charged with the loss.  Ciccarelli allowed three earned runs on two hits and two walks before Angela Adamkiewicz came in for relief work.  Adamkiewicz went five innings in the circle and allowed four earned runs on six hits.  Adamkiewicz struck out three and handed out four free passes.

Blue Knights on the mound (Game 2): Erin Lappe pitched a complete game to earn the victory.  Lappe gave up two earned runs (4 runs) on seven hits over seven innings.  Lappe struck out six Panthers and walked three.

Game notes (Game 2): Old Westbury was out-hit, 8-7 including 3-0 in the extra base hit department.  On the base path, Old Westbury stole one base and left eight Panthers stranded while Mount Saint Mary stole one base and left six on base.  In the field, Old Westbury was flawless as Mount Saint Mary committed two errors.  On the mound, Old Westbury struck out three batters and walked six while Mount Saint Mary struck out six and walked four.
