BROOKLYN, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Softball team swept through non-conference opponent, St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Wednesday night at Keyspan Field. Old Westbury improves to 6-6 overall while St. Joseph's (Bklyn.) drops to 0-10 on the season.
Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Angela Adamkiewicz was one of five Panthers to collect multiple hits in leading the Panthers to victory. Adamkiewiz (3-for-5) hit three singles and drove in three Panthers and score one run while Maria Canino (2-for-4, SB) clubbed a two run home run in the fifth inning and finished with four runs batted in. Huriye Donuk (2-for-4, SB) hit a pair of singles to drive in two Panthers and scored two runs. Deborah Ciccarelli (2-for-3, SB) doubled in one Panther and scored two runs. Shannon Gilly doubled home two runs and scored two runs while Jessica Stoddard (1-for-3) scored two runs. Olga Carries (1-for-5) cracked open a triple and scored two runs.
Golden Bears at the plate (Game 1): Jackie Marinello (3-for-4) led St. Joseph's (Bklyn.) with three hits. Marinello doubled in two runs and scored run while Carissa Cancemi (1-for-4) drove in three Golden Bears and scored one run. Catherine Norris (1-for-3) scored two runs and stole one base.
Panthers on the mound (Game 1): Angela Adamkiewicz earned the victory after going the distance, allowing 11 runs (7 earned) on six hits. Adamkiewicz struck out 12 Golden Bears and handed out six free passes.
Golden Bears on the mound (Game 1): Julianne Basmagy tossed four and one third innings in the circle, surrendering 11 runs (6 earned) on eight hits and struck out six and walked seven. Christina Girardi came in to relieve Basmagy for one and two third innings and was charged with six runs (5 earned) on six hits while striking out two and walking three. Carissa Cancemi closed out the final inning and gave up two hits and walked one.
Game notes (Game 1): Old Westbury out-hit St. Joseph's (Bklyn.), 16-6 including a 5-2 advantage in the extra base hit department. On the base path, Old Westbury swept six bases and left 12 Panthers stranded while St. Joseph's (Bklyn.) stole one base and left four Golden Bears on base. In the field, Old Westbury committed five errors and St. Joseph's (Bklyn.) had nine. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out 12 batters and walked six while St. Joseph's (Bklyn.) struck out eight and walked 11.
Panthers at the plate (Game 2): Maria Canino (3-for-4) crushed a triple to drive in Angela Adamkiewicz (2-for-5) in the fourth inning to lead the Panthers at the plate. Canino added one double and finished with three runs batted in and two scores while Adamkiewicz connected on two doubles to drive in two Panthers swept two bases and scored twice. Jessica Stoddard (1-for-4, SB) scored four runs and drove in two Panthers as Shannon Gilly (0-for-4) had two scores and two stolen bases. Crystal Rodriguez scored two runs and stole two bases.
Golden Bears at the plate (Game 2): Jackie Marinello and Theresa Mendez led the Golden Bears with a pair of singles each. Marinello (2-for-3) drove in one run while Mendez (2-for-3) scored three runs, stole two bases and drove in one run. Allison Kavanagh hit 1-for-2 with two runs batted in and scored one run.
Panthers on the mound (Game 2): Deborah Ciccarelli threw a complete game in the circle and allowed six earned runs on eight hits. Ciccarelli struck out nine batters and handed out four free passes.
Golden Bears on the mound (Game 2): Julianne Basmagy relinquished 12 runs (6 earned) on eight hits. Basmagy registered seven strikeout and five walks.
Game notes (Game 2): Old Westbury and St. Joseph's (Bklyn.) drew even with eight hits apiece, while Old Westbury totaled four extra base hits. On the base path, Old Westbury stole five bases and stranded eight Panthers while St. Joseph's (Bklyn.) had one stole base and left five Golden Bears on base.
