PANTHER BASEBALL DROPS TWO IN CONFERENCE PLAY TO FARMINGDALE STATE

FARMINGDALE, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Baseball team lost a double-header to Skyline Conference opponent, Farmingdale State on Sunday afternoon at on the road.  Old Westbury drops to 8-6 in league play and 11-25 overall while Farmingdale State moves to 9-3 in conference action and 16-13 on the season.

Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Ben Farmer (2-for-3) was the lone Panther to register multiple hits in a close loss to Farmingdale State.  Farmer connected on a triple and then scored as Joe Mazzarese (0-for-3) lifted a sacrifice fly to center field.  Thomas Butler (1-for-4) doubled and Ryan Blanco (1-for-4), Emmanuel Mateo (1-for-4) and David Collado (1-for-4) each singled while Collado was sat down on strikes twice.             

Rams at the plate (Game 1): Luis Feliciano (3-for-4) led all hitters with a trio of singles to lift Farmingdale State to victory.  Feliciano drove home Zak Nersesian (1-for-4) in the seventh inning.  Brian Benvenuto (2-for-4) and Frank Innis (2-for-4) hit a pair of singles, while Benvenuto scored in the first inning. 

Panthers on the mound (Game 1): Robert Whitenack suffered the loss after giving up two earned runs (3 runs) on 10 hits over seven innings.  Whitenack struck out four Rams before Fan Fordyce gave up two hits in a scoreless ninth inning.     

Rams on the mound (Game 1): Tom Heeman had a strong performance after throwing eight innings to earn the victory.  Heeman gave up one earned run on sixth hits along with five strikeouts before Billy Garofalo closed out the ninth inning with two strikeouts to notch the save. 

Game notes (Game 1): Old Westbury was out-hit by Farmingdale State, 12-7 despite a 2-0 advantage in the extra base hit department.  On the base path, Old Westbury swept three of four bases and stranded five Panthers while Farmingdale State went 0-for-2 in stolen bases and left nine Rams on base.  In the field, Old Westbury committed the lone errors in the game as Joe Mazzarese had two.  On the mound, Old Westbury struck out four Rams while Farmingdale State had seven strikeouts. 

Panthers at the plate (Game 2):  Thomas Butler (2-for-3) singled and doubled to lead the Panthers.  Josh Flett (1-for-3) and Ben Farmer (1-for-3) each singled while Bill Campbell stole one base. 

Rams at the plate (Game 2): Steve Campbell (3-for-4) was one of three Rams to strike for multiple hits.  Campbell hit a trio of singles while Rich Gilli (2-for-3) hit two doubles and scored two runs and Luis Feliciano (2-for-3) added one run.  Mike Labrozzi (1-for-3) drilled a three run home run in the first inning to score Feliciano and Kevin Curtis (1-for-3).  Vinny Block (1-for-4, RBI) scored three runs and Anthony Mazzilli (1-for-1) drove in three Rams.        

Panthers on the mound (Game 2): George Pagan was charged for four earned runs (8 runs) on seven hits over four and two third innings.  Pagan struck out one and walked three before Frank Russo Jr. tossed one inning of relief work.  Russo was roughed up for six earned runs on five hits with two walks as Jake Tauber recorded the final out after giving up one hit. 

Rams on the mound (Game 2): Rob Savarese earned the victory with a solid five inning performance on the mound and gave up three runs (0 earned) with five hits, two walks and one strikeout.  Alex Urgiles and Billy Garofalo combined for two innings of work to close out the shutout victory. 

Game notes (Game 2): Old Westbury was out-hit, 14-4 including a 4-1 advantage in the extra base hit department.  On the base path, Old Westbury swept one of two bases and stranded six Panthers while Farmingdale State had one stolen base and left six Rams on base.  On the defensive front, Old Westbury committed three errors as Farmingdale State had zero.  On the mound, Old Westbury struck out one and walked five while Farmingdale State had one strikeout and three walks.
