College at Old Westbury Softball team split a costly Skyline
Conference double-header at Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday
afternoon. In game one, Old Westbury edged the Dolphins, 3-2
but was unable to keep pace in a series finale loss in game two,
7-4. Old Westbury stands a 5-11 in league play and 15-15
overall while Mount Saint Vincent improves to 5-11 in conference
action and 18-16 on the season.
Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Traci Weeks
(3-3) was one of three Panthers to register multiple hits in a
victory over Mount Saint Vincent. Weeks was perfect at the
plate, with a trio if singles to go along with one run
scored. Angela Adamkiewicz (2-for-3) clubbed a solo homerun
down the left field line in the sixth inning along with a double
while Maria Canino (2-for-4) hit a pair of singles.
Panthers on the mound (Game 1): Deborah
Ciccarelli was victorious after going the distance with three
strikeouts. Ciccarelli allowed two earned runs on six hits
while handing out one free pass.
Game Notes (Game 1): Old Westbury out-hit Mount
Saint Vincent, 9-6 and was even in the extra base hit department,
2-2. On the base path, Old Westbury stranded six Panthers
while Mount Saint Vincent left five Dolphins on base and stole one
base. In the field, Old Westbury and Mount Saint Vincent
committed one error. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out
three strikeouts and walked one as Mount Saint Vincent had three
strikeouts and one walk.
Panthers at the plate (Game 2): Deborah
Ciccarelli (3-for-4) led the Panthers and was one of three Panthers
to record multiple hits. Ciccarelli stroked three singles
while Maria Canino (2-for-3) hit a pair of singles to drive in one
run and cross for two scores. Angela Adamkiewicz (2-for-4)
hit a couple of singles and drove in one run as Jessica Stoddard
(1-for-4) doubled and later scored. Shannon Gilly (1-for-3)
singled and scored in the second inning.
Panthers on the mound (Game 2): Deborah
Ciccarelli suffered the loss after tossing six innings in the
circle. Ciccarelli allowed three earned runs (7 runs) on
eight hits with two strikeouts and issued four walks.
Game Notes (Game 2): Old Westbury out-hit Mount
Saint Vincent, 11-8, including a 2-0 advantage in the extra base
hit department, due in part to doubles by Huriye Donuk and Jessica
Stoddard. On the base path, Old Westbury was unable to
capitalize on bringing home the base runners as 10 Panthers were
stranded while Mount Saint Vincent left five Dolphins on base to go
with one steal. In the field, Old Westbury committed one
error and Mount Saint Vincent had two. On the mound, Old
Westbury had two strikeouts and four walks as Mount Saint Vincent
struck out six and walked two.
The Green and Ivory just missed out on a Skyline Conference
Championship Tournament appearance and will be awaiting a decision
by the ECAC for the upcoming Tournament. For more information
