Old Westbury vs. Lehman Boxscore

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team scored five runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Lightning of Lehman College, 8-5 in six innings at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex in Old Westbury.  Old Westbury moves to 11-8 on the season while Lehman slips to 3-12.

Panthers at the plate: Junior Albert Bevacqua (Staten Island, N.Y.) was the offensive catalyst for Old Westbury, drilling a solo shot to left field to kick start a five-run fifth inning for the Panthers.  Bevacqua finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and a stolen base.  Back-to-back doubles in the fifth inning by sophomore Emmanuel Mateo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Ronnie Petito (Cape Coral, FL) gave the Panthers the lead.  Mateo hit 1-for-3 with a run scored and Petito (1-for-1) drove in two runs and scored one.  Sophomore Ryan Blanco (Ozone Park, N.Y.) doubled to center field in the fifth to drive in Petito and finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Lightning at the plate: Gilbert Garcia led the way for Lehman, swatting a triple to go 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored.  Bobby Villante added a 2-for-3 performance, including a triple with two runs scored.

Panthers on the mound: Freshman Biondis Vasquez (Elmont, N.Y.) improved to 2-0 on the season, allowing five runs (4 earned) on six hits over five innings on the hill.  Vasquez registered three strikeouts and three walks before senior Jake Tauber (Valley Stream, N.Y.) notched his first save of the season with one inning of work.

Lightning on the mound: Brian Cubero suffered the loss after surrendering 10 hits on eight runs over five innings.  Cubero walked two and recorded three strikeouts.

Game Notes: Old Westbury outslugged Lehman, 10-8, including a 4-3 margin in extra base hits.  On the base path, Old Westbury stole three of four bases and stranded five runners, compared to Lehman, which left seven on base.  On the defensive front, both teams turned a double-play while Old Westbury had one error (Albert Bevacqua) and Lehman committed four (Alberto Alicea, Leonardo Hernandez-2, William Rivera).  On the hill, Old Westbury had four strikeouts and three walks while Lehman had three strikeouts and two walks.
