Old Westbury at Stevens Boxscore

HOBOKEN, N.J.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team won 8-2 over former Skyline Conference foe, Stevens Institute of Technology, on Saturday afternoon at Dobbelaar Baseball Field in Hoboken.  Old Westbury improved to 16-10 overall while the Ducks fell to 12-16. 

Panthers at the plate: The Panthers were led by seniors John Taglienti (Shirley, N.Y.) and Ben Farmer (Three Mile Bay, N.Y.) along with junior Albert Bevacqua (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore Emmanuel Mateo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who chipped in with multi-hits.  Freshman Ronnie Petito (Cape Coral, FL) put Old Westbury on the board in the fourth inning, when he lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score sophomore Ryan Blanco (Ozone Park, N.Y.) for one of his two runs scored on the day.  Taglienti (2-for-4, 2 Runs) followed with a single that drove home Mateo (2-for-5).  Sophomore Steve Henriquez (North Babylon, N.Y.) single to center field to drive in Tagleinti for the go ahead run in the seventh inning.  Bevacqua (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Farmer (2-for-4, RBI, Run) also drove in runs in the seventh before junior Joe Manzella (North Babylon, N.Y.) drilled a solo shot to right center, part of a five run seventh inning.  

Ducks at the plate: Junior Mark Rasulo (Irvington, N.Y.) and freshman T.J. Alcorn (Turnversville, N.J.) paced the Ducks at the plate with two singles each.  Freshman Corey Linden (Hawley, PA) singled in the second inning to score Alcorn (2-for-3).  Junior Anthony Andrew (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) platted home sophomore Ken Meeredonk (Sussex, N.J.) in the third after reaching on a fielder's choice for the final Ducks run of the game.

Panthers on the mound: Junior Robert Hugli (New Hyde Park, N.Y) collected the win after working seven innings to notch his third victory of the week, improving to 5-2 on the season.  Hugli allowed two runs on five hits and three walks and registered five strikeouts.  Senior Jake Tauber (Valley Stream, N.Y.) worked two innings in relief of Hugli, scattering two hits with a walk and a strikeout. 

Ducks on the mound: Old Westbury knocked Ken Meerendonk out of the game in the seventh after allowing four runs in the frame.  Meerendonk was tagged for seven runs (five earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts in 6.2 innings before sophomore Kyle Hanas (Garland, TX) worked two innings of scoreless relief. 

Game Notes: Old Westbury outhit Stevens, 10-7 including a 2-0 advantage in extra base hits.  On the base path, Old Westbury left six runners on base compared to Stevens, which stranded 10.  Defensively, Old Westbury turned three double plays and committed one error while Stevens had four miscues.  On the mound, Old Westbury registered six strikeouts and four walks while Stevens had two strikeouts.
