FARMINGDALE, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team was unable to add on the runs needed to overcome the defending Skyline Conference Champions, Farmingdale State, falling 9-4 in the second round of the conference tourney on Friday afternoon at the Farmingdale State Baseball Complex.
The loss moves the fourth-seeded Panthers to 20-17 on the season while the top-seeded Rams improve to 21-13. Old Westbury will now take on the second-seeded St. Joseph's-L.I. Eagles in a must win game with the loser facing elimination on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Farmingdale, New York. Farmingdale State will take on third-seed Mount Saint Mary at noon.
Old Westbury gave up three runs in the second frame off four hits and an error to give the Rams a 3-0 lead. Gibran Bracamonte provided the fireworks with a three-run homer to center field off starter Marvin Rosario.
Old Westbury answered in the fourth with two runs to cut the deficit. Albert Bevacqua reached on a double and Josef Schaetzle singled to set up Old Westbury's first run as Bevacqua scored off a grounder by Edwin Pena. Ali Ferreiras followed with a single up the middle to score Schaetzle in the fourth.
The Rams added a single run in the fourth when Brandon Cruz doubled and advanced on a passed ball and then scored on a grounder by Gibram Bracamonte.
The Panthers responded in the fifth with two scores to knot the game at 4-4. Euris Turbi started the fifth with a double down the right field line and Joe Manzella singled and stole second to set up a single by Kondra to knock home Turbi. Melvin Simmons lifted a sacrifice to right field to score Manzella for Old Westbury's final run.
Farmingdale State took the lead for good in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to end the day for Marvin Rosario. With the bases loaded, William Campbell was called on for relief work and surrendered all three of Rosario's runs in the sixth. He pitched the two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth innings.
The Rams preserved the victory with three relievers that held the Panthers to just two hits over the final four innings.

William Campbell tossed three innings and dealt two walks. Chris Phelan started for Farmingdale State and worked 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. J.R. Lott improved to 3-0 on the season, working 2.2 innings of shutout ball, with two hits allowed and recorded two strikeouts. Mike Biasi and Raimondi also worked relief for the Rams.
Jason Kondra and Albert Bevacqua banged out two hits each to spur the Panther offense. Bevacqua and Euris Turbi registered Old Westbury's two doubles and Joe Manzella stole the lone bag on the day. Brandon Cruz and Gibran Bracamonte carried the big bats for the Rams, combing to swat 5-for-7 with five runs scored and four RBI. Ryan Rubenstein, Frank Yera, and Donny Moscatelli each contributed multiple hits.
