www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team won its third consecutive game of the year with an impressive 81-41conference victory over the visiting Bard Raptors Saturday afternoon in Old Westbury, New York. Old Westbury improves to 7-9 on the season and 6-5 against the Skyline Conference while Bard moves to 1-16 and 1-11, respectively.
Old Westbury took control from the opening tip, jumping out to an early 17-3 lead with 13:46 remaining in the first half. Moments later, OW extended its lead to 20 on a 9-3 run to go up 26-6 at the 9:10 mark. Bard hit back-to-back three on consecutive possessions to cut the deficit to 16 before the Panthers rattled off a 15-5 run to take a 26 point lead (43-17) with 2:53 left on the clock. OW took a 44-21 lead into the break.
Bard came out of the second half gates on a 14-7 run to close within 14 (51-35) at the 14:35 mark. Old Westbury responded with 30-4 offensive spurt to go up by 42 points (81-39) before cashing in on an 81-41 victory.
Tymel Ambrose distributed a career-high 13 helpers to notch his third double-digit assist game of the season. Old Westbury posted four Panthers in double-digit scoring led by
Matthew Duffy, who poured in a career-high 20 points on 6-of-9 from three-point land to go with seven rebounds.
Scott Arias followed with 16 points on the bench, including four triples and two steals while
Lester Prosper registered his 13th double-double of the season, combing 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Frantz Granjean chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots and
Jefferson Guillaume added eight points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals off the bench.
Matt Shubert and Alvaro Llanes paced Bard with eight points apiece while Frank Stortini followed with eight. Christian Marghella grabbed a team-best five boards.
Old Westbury shot 48.4 percent from the field compared to Bard's 27.1 percent. OW outrebounded Bard, 46-24, including 16-7 off the offensive glass, resulting in 16 Panther second chance points. Old Westbury pressured Bard into 16 turnovers which resulted in 24 points off turnovers for the home team.
ST. JOSEPH'S-LONG ISLAND GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Wednesday (Jan. 26), taking on the first place St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles in a Skyline Conference battle in Old Westbury, New York. Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
