OW will look to snap its four game skid on Thursday (Jan. 6) at home against Farmingdale State

LANCASTER, PA (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team fell to the Wesley Wolverines, 81-78, on Monday evening in the consolation game of the Franklin & Marshall Sponaugle New Years Tournament in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The loss is OW's fourth consecutive, dropping its record to 2-7 on the season while Wesley improves to 6-6.

Lester Prosper was named to the All-Tournament team after averaged 22.5 points, 18.0 rebounds and 6.0 blocked shots in two games.

Wesley jumped out to an early 10-point lead to start the game, 13-3, with 17:03 left on the first-half clock. Kevin Johnson sank a trey with 13:30 remaining to cap a 9-4 Wolverine run. However, OW quickly chopped the deficit down with an 11-0 spurt, hitting 4-of-5 from the floor to make it a four-point game (22-18). Wesley built the lead back to 10-points at the 5:58 mark on a three-ball by Eric Selby. OW outscored Wesley 10-4 to close out the game and entered halftime, trailing 39-35.

The Panthers came out the second half gates and chipped away at the Wolverines' lead. A layup by Jamal Little gave OW its first lead of the game (42-41) with 18:20 left to play. The game see-sawed back-and-forth in the second half, with Wesley leading by as many as five and OW went up by three. Trailing, 78-77, Jamal Little hit one of two from the line with 53 seconds left to knot the game a t 78 all. Back to back turnovers by both teams led the Wesley calling a timeout with eight seconds remaining. Wesley's Paul Reynolds dropped in a layup and was fouled by Frantz Granjean. Reynolds converted the three point play to push Wesley ahead, 81-78. OW's Craig Wilson missed on a three-pointer that would have tied the game as time expired.

OW had four players in double figures, including Lester Prosper, who tallied 17 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots. Jamal Little scored 17 points (4-8 3FG). Frantz Granjean also notched a double-double, combining 16 points and 12 rebounds (6 offensive). Tyquan Moore chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Wesley's Paul Reynolds finished the night with a game-high 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting to go along with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Darrell Johnson followed with 17 points to go with a pair of blocked shots and steals.

The Panthers finished the night shooting 43.5 percent (27-62) from the floor and 33.3 percent (5-15) from three-point land. OW connected on 76 percent (19-25) from the charity stripe. Wesley shot 45.5 percent from the field (30-66) and was 6-of-14 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc. The Wolverines also hit 83.3 percent on the night from the free-throw line (15-18). OW won the battle of the boards, 44-24, including an 18-8 advantage off the offensive glass, resulting in 13 points. Old Westbury's 20 turnovers resulted in 21 points for Wesley.

FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers head home to take on Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State on Thursday (Jan. 6) in Old Westbury, New York. Old Westbury and Farmingdale State tip at 8 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
