BROOKLYN, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball returned to its winning ways on Thursday evening, lashing the NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays by a final score of 82-46 in Skyline Conference action on the road at Jacobs Gymnasium. With the win, the Panthers improve to 9-12 on the season with an 8-8 conference tally while NYU-Poly drops to 0-21 and 0-18, respectively.

The Panthers led from the opening tip when Frantz Granjean sank a jumper eight seconds into the contest. NYU-Poly never led throughout the course of the contest while the Panthers went up by as many as 36. Old Westbury grabbed its first double-digit lead of the game when Andre Martin connected on a jumper assisted by Tymel Ambrose at 12:57 to take a 17-6 lead. Lester Prosper's free-throws at 1:23 stretched the lead to 15 as OW took a comfortable 37-22 advantage into the locker room at half time.

Old Westbury outscored NYU-Poly 45-24 after the intermission led by Matthew Duffy's 14 point second half performance. Duffy connected on a triple at 11:49 to put OW ahead by 18 and followed with a jumper to make it 50-30. NYU-Poly scored on back to back possessions to cut the deficit to 16 but only fueled the Panthers to a 30-10 run from 8:48 to 1:05 to jump ahead by 36.

Andre Martin led all scorers with a game-high 18 points on 9-of-12 shooting for Old Westbury. Lester Prosper followed with 15 points and eight rebounds while Frantz Granjean registered his eighth double-double of the season, combining 14 points and 11 rebounds in 19 minutes of action. Matthew Duffy hit 4-of-7 from long distance and finished with 14 points while Tymel Ambrose dished out a game-best seven assists to go along with four steals. Scott Arias nabbed three steals off the bench.  

Eddie Johnson hit 7-of-14 from the floor and scored 14 points in addition to three steals to lead NYU-Poly. Eddie Ortiz followed with 10 points and Eric Southworth pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Old Westbury outshot NYU-Poly 50 percent (30-60) from the field, 36.4 percent (4-11) from three-point range and 62.1 percent (18-29) from the line. NYU-Poly finished the game shooting 34.5 percent (19-55) from the floor, 20 percent (2-10) from three-point land and 50 percent (6-12) from the charity stripe. OW also held a 49-28 advantage off the glass, including 19-9 off the offensive boards, resulting into 16 second chance Panther points.

PURCHASE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Saturday (Feb. 12), taking on the Purchase Panthers in the “Battle of the Panthers” – Round Two on the road. Old Westbury dropped round one 85-79 on January 13 at home. Game time is set to tip at 3 p.m. in Purchase, New York.
