MEN’S HOOPS GRAB FIFTH SEED IN UPCOMING SKYLINE TOURNEY WITH 87-66 ROAD WIN AT BARD

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) –  The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team closed out the regular season with an 87-66 Skyline Conference road victory over the Bard Raptors Saturday afternoon. The win improves Old Westbury to 12-13 on the year and 11-9 against the Skyline Conference while Bard drops to 2-22 and 2-17, respectively.

Old Westbury owned the game from the opening tip jumping out to a commanding 18-3 lead with 13:53 showing on the first half clock. OW held a 49-39 advantage at halftime and ran away from the Raptors thanks to a 23-9 spurt from 12:32 to 3:14 in the second half.

Three Panthers scored in double-digits led by Matthew Duffy, who poured in a career-high 25 points, hitting on seven triples from three-point territory. Duffy pocketed a career-best three steals and handed out three assists. Frantz Granjean and Lester Prosper followed with monster double-doubles. Granjean tallied 23 points and 17 rebounds (10th double-double of season) while Prosper registered his 18th double-double of the season combining 20 points and 14 boards to go with two blocked shots. Scott Arias registered 10 points off the bench and Tymel Ambrose played a strong floor game, dishing out a game-high nine assists (15th game with 5+ assists) with zero turnovers.

Matt Shubert led Bard with 22 points, hitting 10-of-12 from the free-throw line in defeat. Christian Marghella contributed 11 points and six rebounds while Yonah Greenstein totaled four assists. Frank Stortini nabbed a team-best three steals.

The Panthers registered a 47.6 percent field goal percentage in the contest and limited Bard to 37.5 percent. Old Westbury also connected on 39.1 percent from three-point land and 81.8 percent from the free-throw line, compared to Bard which hit on 28.6 percent from beyond the arc and 76.2 percent from the line. OW won the boards battle 48-25, including 16-8 edge off the offensive glass which resulted in 18 second chance points. Old Westbury also converted nine Raptor turnovers into 14 points.

FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the hardwood on Tuesday (Feb. 20) as the fifth seed when they travel to the fourth seeded Farmingdale State Rams in a Skyline Conference Championship Tournament Quarter-final matchup in Farmingdale, New York. Game time is set to tip at 6 p.m. from the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center.
