(www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball fell behind 34-25 in the first half and was unable to overcome the deficit, falling 75-53 on the road to the Farmingdale State Rams Tuesday evening at the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center. The loss moved Old Westbury to 14-5 overall and 10-4 against the Skyline Conference while Farmingdale State improved to 15-6 and 11-3, respectively. 

DeAndra Scott made a pair of free-throws as Old Westbury took its only lead of the way at 2-0. Following a layup by Kim Weathers at 6:11, Farmingdale State went on a 13-6 run to grab a 34-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Farmingdale State's lead would reach double-digits for good off a layup by Jalicia Connell at 14:04, making it 41-31. Moments later, the lead extended to 20 (57-37) at the 8:56 mark and ballooned to as many as 26 as Dominique Cunningham scored two of her four points with 7:33 remaining on the clock. 
 
Kim Weathers poured in 21 points to go along with five steals to lead Old Westbury's scoring efforts. Weathers struggled from the floor, hitting just 7-of-21 shots and coughed up seven turnovers. The remaining four starters managed to connect on 7-of-24 from the field. Following Weathers in the scoring column were DeAndra Scott and Alicia Mathias, who finished with six points each while Ruth Vargas added five points and eight rebounds (five offensive).

Kayla Koch scored 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals to lead the way for Farmingdale State off the bench. Keona Jones posted a double-double, combining 10 points and 10 rebounds while Juanita Chappel contributed 11 points and six assists.

Farmingdale State won the battle of the boards, 46-42, and finished the game hitting 42.4 percent (28-of-66) from the floor and 68.2 percent (15-of-22) from the free-throw line. Old Westbury shot just 30.6 percent (19-of-62) from the floor, including 3-of-14 from long range and 75 percent from the charity stripe (12-of-16).

NYU-POLY FIGHTING BLUE JAYS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Thursday (Feb. 10), taking on the NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays in the third annual WBCA Pink Zone “Score For The Cure” game on Senior Night at the Clark Athletic Center. Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York.

The events planned for the day include a breast cancer awareness walk and a pre-game ceremony honoring Old Westbury's two outstanding senior members of the women's basketball team - Shannon Gilly and Brittany Jones. The breast cancer awareness walk around the court will take place at 5:45 p.m. Members of the Old Westbury community are expected to participate in the walk in addition to the women's basketball team and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. One in eight women are affected by breast cancer and all participants will be asked to walk anywhere from one to eight laps around the court.
