www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers baseball team was swept by the Farmingdale State Rams Saturday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex, 6-0 and 7-5. The Panthers drop to 4-10 overall and 0-4 in Skyline Conference play with the losses. The Rams improve to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in conference games.
The day's first game was a pitcher's duel with Old Westbury's
Corey Murphy and Farmingdale State's Chris Phelan, until the Rams platted runs in each of the final five innings. David Zilnici placed down a sacrifice bunt to push across Ryan Rubenstein for the games initial run in the fifth. In the sixth, Rubenstein singled up the middle to drive in Terrance Bohanan for the two run lead.
Corey Murphy surrendered a pair of unearned runs in the seventh on a single by Bohanan that scored two on an error by OW centerfielder
Kevin Cohen. Farmingdale State tacked on single runs in the eighth and ninth off OW reliever
Marvin Rosario to seal a 6-0 win.
Corey Murphy was hit with the loss for Old Westbury, and fell to 1-3 on the season after allowing just one earned run on seven hits and three walks while striking out five.
Marvin Rosario walked three batters and gave up two runs on two hits in two innings of work.
Chris Phelan improved to 3-1 with a completed game shutout victory. He struck out eight and scattered four hits.
Joseph Guido led OW at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double.
Anthony Orsano also doubled in a 1-for-4 game at the dish.
Ryan Rubenstein hit 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and runs scored while Anthony Ferrante and Terrance Bohanan collected two hits apiece.
In the second game of the day, Farmingdale State scored a run in the first before Old Westbury responded with two in the bottom half of the inning.

Melvin Simmons on an single to left center. Farmingdale State answered back in the third with three runs on four hits. Kevin Cutis, Terrance Bohanan both platted RBI singles and Bohanan later scored as Ryan Rubenstein was caught stealing second. Farmingdale State scored a run in the fifth on a double by Bohanan and OW scored in the bottom of the inning on a double by
Anthony Orsano. In the bottom of the seventh OW rallied to score two runs to push the game into extra innings. Guido doubled home
Blake Barbeito and scored two batters later off an Orsano single past the shortstop. Two runs were scored in the top of the by Farmingdale State as David Zilnicki doubled in two rams with two outs off OW reliever
Chris Sanabria for the eventual game winning runs. OW went down one-two-three in the bottom of the eleventh.
Chris Sanabria (1-3) suffered the loss for OW after tossing 2.2 innings of relief. He struck out three Rams while allowing two runs on two hits and two walks. Starter Tyler Levine whiffed two batters and lasted 4.2 innings and was charged with four earned runs on six hits and one walk.
Steven Chapter relieved Levine with 3.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and was hit for just three base knocks.
Farmingdale State starter C.J. Bula was not around to pick up the win, after he exited after working 6.0 innings. He gave up five runs on nine hits. Drew Dallanegra followed Bula for 2.2 innings of scoreless work. J.R. Lott finished up the game with 2.1 innings of hitless work, striking out three to earn his second win.
Melvin Simmons banged out three hits to lead Old Westbury, which finished with 11 hits.
Anthony Orsano finished with a 2-for-4 game at the plate with two RBI and
Euris Turbi pitched in with two singles in five at-bats.
Joseph Guido and
Blake Barbeito each scored twice.
Terrance Bohanan went 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI while Ryan McAllister followed with two hits. Ron Remi and Anthony Ferrante scored twice and David Zilnicki drove in a pair of runs.
ST. JOSEPH'S-BROOKLYN BEARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers will look to rebound Sunday (Mar. 27) when they return to the field for a non-conference doubleheader with the St. Joseph's-Brooklyn Bears in Old Westbury, New York. First pitch is slated for Noon from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
