ITHACA DEALS OUT 11-2 DRUBBING TO PANTHER BASEBALL

YAPHANK, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team were dealt its first defeat of the season Saturday morning as the Ithaca Bombers topped the Panthers 11-2 at Baseball Heaven. OW is now 1-1 on the season while Ithaca improves to 2-0. 

Ithaca jumped out to an early three-run lead as leadoff hitter Matt Keller singled and stole second followed by a walk that set up a three-run blast over the left field fence by David Ahonen. In the third, Sean Weber platted home two runs on a single and Andrew Turner's two-run double capped a four run Bomber inning. OW responded in the bottom half of the third with an RBI single by Anthony Orsano that drove in Kevin Cohen. Old Westbury added its second and final run in the fifth inning when Josef Schaetzle singled home Melvin Simmons. Ithaca added two more runs in the sixth off a two-run single by Matt Keller and two in the ninth to take an 11-2 victory. 

Anthony Orsano (2-4, RBI, SB), Melvin Simmons (2-3, R) and Benjamin Farias (2-3) paced OW's offense with multiple hit games. 

Teagan Barresi (3-4, 2B, RBI, R, SB) and Matt Keller (2-5, 2 RBI, R) registered multiple hits while David Ahonen provided the power, belting a three-run homer to go along with three runs scored. Andrew Turner and Sean Weber both drove in a pair of Bombers. 

Both teams registered 10 hits apiece while Old Westbury left eight runners on base compared to Ithaca's five. Ithaca stole three bags and OW had one. Each team committed an error and turned a double-play. 

Chris Sanabria worked three innings for Old Westbury and took the loss. Sanabria allowed three earned runs on six hits and four walks. OW used three relievers over six innings, giving up four hits, four runs and two walks while striking out two. 

Ithaca's Aaron Sapp earned the victory with six innings of mound work, allowing one earned run on eight hits and a walk while striking out five. Dan Lynch and Tucker Healey worked three innings of relief, allowing two hits and struck out three Panthers. 

EASTERN CONNECTICUT WARRIORS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for a non-conference battle on Sunday (Mar. 6) with the Eastern Connecticut Warriors in Yaphank, New York. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m. from Baseball Heaven.
