www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers baseball team took both games of a Skyline Conference doubleheader against the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles at Greg Alfano Field in Patchogue, New York Saturday afternoon. The pair of victories improves Old Westbury to 9-10 overall record and 2-4 in the Skyline Conference while the Golden Eagles fall to 10-11 and 8-2, respectively. The pair of wins extend OW's win streak to five games.
In game one, Old Westbury took a brief 2-1 lead with a two run second inning.
Ali Ferreiras tripled home
Josef Schaetzle for the games initial run and
Steven Henriquez followed with a single to knock in Ferreiras. St. Joseph's-L.I. tied the game at two with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Old Westbury took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning on five hits. Singles by
Anthony Orsano and
Benjamin Farias both knocked in a run and
Josef Schaetzle tripled to scored two. After St. Joseph's-L.I. scored again in the sixth to make it a 6-3 game, OW added two more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to preserve the victory.
Corey Murphy (2-3) picked up the complete game victory, allowing three runs on seven hits with zero walks while sitting down four Golden Eagles on strikes. Jason Dierkes took the loss for SJC-L.I., dropping his record to 1-2 after getting tapped for six runs on nine hits and two walks.
Josef Schaetzle collected three hits and drove in three runs and scored three to lead the Panthers.
Melvin Simmons and
Benjamin Farias both stroked a pair of hits and Ali Ferrieras and Farias drove in two runs. Simmons and Farias swept two bases each. Brian Hannigan hit 2-for-4 in pacing the Golden Eagles.

Melvin Simmons in the opening frame. St. Joseph's-L.I. tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a Prateek Thaman sacrifice fly. The Golden Eagles scored again in the third and three more times in the fourth the knock OW starter

Ali Ferreiras. Down 5-2 in the top of the sixth, Old Westbury erupted for six runs on four hits and an error to earn the come from behind victory.

Old Westbury hurler
Marvin Rosario (1-0) stymied St. Joseph's-L.I. to the tune of no runs on four hits with striking out two over the final four innings. Rosario picked up his first win in relief of
Chris Sanabria, who went three innings on the hill. SJC-L.I. starter Shane O'Connor earned a no decision after giving up five runs on seven hits in six innings. Michael Napoli was dealt the loss as he surrendered three runs (two earned) on two hits and one walk.
Melvin Simmons stroked a pair of singled in going 2-for-2 with a pair of runs driven and scored for his tenth multi-hit game of the season.
Anthony Orsano scored two runs for Old Westbury. Rich Pecoparo led the Golden Eagles with a 3-for-3 game at the plate while Prateek Thaman drove in three runs.
