www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers Baseball team suffered a 5-2 setback to the Ramapo Roadrunners Monday afternoon on the road at Jeff Maund Memorial Field in its final tune-up for Wednesday's first-round Skyline Conference Championship Tournament road matchup. The loss moves Old Westbury to 19-17 on the season while Ramapo improves to 25-7.
Joseph Guido led off the game with a double to left center and stole third.
Chris DeGennaro drew a two out walk and stole second that allowed Guido to score on a throwing error by catcher Matt Hancock to give Old Westbury an early 1-0 lead. Old Westbury starter
Jorge Hiraldo breezed through Ramapo after working the opening three frames.
Ryan Bresnahan worked two innings in relief of Hiraldo and surrendered four runs in the fifth inning as Ramapo took a 4-1 lead. Marco Carolla doubled to right field to score Dan Mauriello followed by Kevin Knox's single to drive in Carolla. Joseph Somma stepped to the plate next and clubbed two-run homer to right field to cap four-run fifth inning. Old Westbury responded with one run in the sixth off a single by
Benjamin Farias that scored
Josef Schaetzle from third. Old Westbury reliever gave up a single to Pat Driscoll in the sixth that platted Matt Hancock for Ramapo's fifth run.

Melvin Simmons both doubled while
Josef Schaetzle,
Chris DeGennaro and
Benjamin Farias all singled to account for Old Westbury's five hits on the day. Old Westbury swept six bags on the day, led by
Melvin Simmons and
Chris DeGennaro, who stole two each. Kevin Knox paced Ramapo with a 2-for-4 day at the plate and Joseph Somma connected on his first home run of the season.

Joshua Burgos in relief of starter
Jorge Hiraldo. Bresnahan (1-6) suffered the loss after surrendering a four-run fifth inning to Ramapo. Ramapo's PJ Cerreto worked six innings on the mound, fanning four batters while giving up two unearned runs on four hits and two walks to improve to 6-1 on the year. John McNeil struck out two Panthers in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.
SKYLINE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for the opening round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament Wednesday (Apr. 27). Old Westbury will find out their first-round opponent tomorrow when tournament brackets are released.
