OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers baseball team combined to score 29 runs in a Skyline Conference doubleheader sweep of the visiting NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays Sunday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. OW earned a 12-2 game one victory and followed with a 17-6 topping in game two. Old Westbury capped off a 5-0 week and improves o 11-10 on the season and 4-4 in conference play while NYU-Poly dips to 2-12 and 2-6, respectively. 
In the opener, 
Ali Ferreiras scored the game's initial run as an error by NYU-Poly centerfielder Chris GiaMarino gave OW a 1-0 lead at the end of two innings. After NYU-Poly tied the game in the third with an RBI single by Jeffery Bourdier, the Panthers responded with two more runs to take the lead for good. 
Ryan Blanco scored the game-tying run on an error by NYU-Poly second baseman David Wolfinger and 
Melvin Simmons crossed for the eventual game-winner on an error by shortstop Sal DeVito. OW tacked on three runs in the fourth and fifth innings along with a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth. 
Tyler Levine (2-1) notched his second win of the season for Old Westbury, working 5.0 innings on the mound, allowing one run (0 earned) on six hits to go with one strikeout. Nathan Albers took the loss for NYU-Poly, dropping his record to 0-3 after surrendering six runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks. 
Melvin Simmons (3-6, 3 RBI, 2 R) and 
Joseph Guido (3-5, 2 RBI, R, 2B) swung the big bats for OW in the opener, collecting three hits each to pace the Panthers. Simmons swept four bags on the game and Guido had one. 
Benjamin Farias hit 2-for-3 with one run scored and 
Ali Ferreiras and 
Ryan Blanco each scored a pair of runs. Jeffrey Burdier and Sal DeVito led NYU-Poly with multiple hits. 
Old Westbury took control of the second game by the end of the second inning when they went up for good, 7-6. After NYU-Poly posted four runs in the first, OW replied with three in the bottom half of the inning. 
Josef Schaetzle put OW on the board with a single that scored 
Melvin Simmons and 
Anthony Orsano. 
Euris Turbi followed with a double to score Schaetzle. NYU-Poly built its lead to 6-3 with two runs in the top of the second before OW scored four in the bottom. Orsano singled to score 
Alex Abanavas. Schaetzle doubled to drive in 
Joseph Guido and 
Melvin Simmons to knot the game at six. 
Benjamin Farias lifted the eventual game-winning sacrifice fly out to left field that scored Orsano. OW added six runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and tacked on three more in the sixth to close out the game. 
OW reliever 
Kevin Briffa (1-1) picked up his first win of the season after working two innings. Briffa allowed two runs (no earned) on three hits before 
Steven Chapter, 
Alex Rutman and 
David Stern closed out the final four innings with shutout ball. Anthony Finch (2-2) was dealt the loss for NYU-Poly. Finch gave up 13 runs (10 earned) on nine hits and five walks. 
Anthony Orsano hit 3-for-4 on the game with his second homer of the season to go along with three runs scored and two RBI's and a stolen base.

Josef Schaetzle (2-4, 4 RBI, R, 2B, SB), 
Euris Turbi (2-4, RBI, 2 R, 2B, SB) and 
Anthony Fernandez (2-5, 2 RBI, R, SB) contributed with multiple hits. 
Benjamin Farias scored three runs while 
Melvin Simmons (1-5, 2 RBI, 2 SB) and 
Alex Abanavas (2 BB, SB) scored two. Anthony Finch (2-3, 3 RBI, R) and Nathan Albers (2-3, 3 RBI, R) led NYU-Poly's offense. 
BARUCH BEARCATS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for a non-conference battle Tuesday (Apr. 5) on the road with the Baruch Bearcats in Bronx, New York. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. from Bronx Community College.
