MEN’S HOOPS GRAB 86-84 VICTORY OVER MOUNT SAINT VINCENT

Everard Bisnauth scored 16 bench points including 3-of-4 from three-point land

OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team squeaked out a hard fought 86-84 Skyline Conference win at home against the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins Tuesday evening in Old Westbury.  With the win, OW improves to 6-6 on the season and 3-2 in conference action while MSV dropped to 3-9 and 1-4, respectively. 

Mount Saint Vincent jumped on the board with a layup by Yeuri Santos which was replied by a Matthew Duffy layup to knot the game at 2-2 with 18:10 remaining in the opening half.  Joshua Hill dropped in a layup to give Old Westbury a 17-13 lead with 14:06 left, OW's largest lead  of the game.  Mount Saint Vincent then took a six point lead with 6:53 showing on the first-half clock as Cody Gauvard banked in a layup.  The first-half featured 13 lead changes and it would be Old Westbury that took the 44-42 advantage into the break as Everard Bisnauth connected on three-pointer with one second left. 

Old Westbury found themselves down 65-59 with 10:38 remaining and replied with a 7-0 run to take a 66-65 lead.  After five more lead changes took place, Old Westbury grabbed hold of the 14th lead change of the half as Kerel Mitchell drained a pair of free-throws to put OW ahead for good, 79-77, with 2:12 left in regulation.  Down by 86-84, Mount Saint Vincent's Chris Bonaventura missed a three-pointer with one second left as OW held on for the victory. 

Joshua Hill poured in a career-high 23 points on 10-of-10 shooting from the floor to go along with a personal-best nine rebounds to lead Old Westbury.  Everard Bisnauth had a career-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and Kerel Mitchell followed with 14 points (4-6 FG), respectively.  Rashawn McCarthy added 13 points, six assists and three blocks off the bench while Rob Sanders registered nine points, six assists and five rebounds.  Omari Trebuse chipped in with seven assists and three steals. 

Yeuri Santos paced the Solhpisn with 21 points (10-12 FG) and five rebounds (4 offensive) while Shaquille Cunningham added 17 points, five assists and three steals.  Cody Gauvard scored10 bench points and Chris Bonventura and Mark Waite both nabbed six steals.  Bonaventura dished out seven assists. 

Old Westbury outshot Mount Saint Vincent with a season-best 63.5 percent (33-52) from the field, compared to Mount Saint Vincent's 47.9 percent (34-71).  Old Westbury connected on 7-of-17 from three-point land while Mount Saint Vincent knocked down 6-of-22.  OW also enjoyed a 32-29 rebounding advantage, while Mount Saint Vincent turned 15 offensive boards into just 15 second chance points.  MSV converted 24 Panther turnovers into 31 points.    

PURCHASE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the hardwood for Skyline Conference action on Thursday (Jan. 12) when they hit the road for the "Battle of the Panthers" with the Purchase College Panthers in Purchase, New York.  Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m.
