MEN’S HOOPS TRIUMPHANT IN CONFERENCE VICTORY OVER NYU-POLY

Tavon McNair combined 19 points and 18 rebounds (career-high) to notch his fourth double-double of the season

BROOKLYN, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team earned a 73-52 Skyline Conference victory over the NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn, New York.  The win improves OW to 8-6 on the season and 5-2 in conference play while the Fighting Blue Jays drop to 0-12 and 0-7, respectively.  .
 
Old Westbury took an early lead as Tavon McNair hit a jumper to put OW ahead 2-0.  Alex Westphal responded for NYU-Poly with a jumper to tie the game.  Omari Trebuse sank a three-pointer to put Old Westbury on top for good with a 5-2 lead.  NYU-Poly closed within 15-14at 10:04 before OW countered with a 21-4 run from 9:47 to 2:08 to take a commanding 36-18 lead.  NYU-Poly outscored Old Westbury 5-0 over the final 1:34 as the Panthers took a 36-23 lead into the half.
 
NYU-Poly came out of the break on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to eight points with 17:47.  With 15:41 on the clock, Old Westbury's Tavon McNair sank a jumper to give Old Westbury a 41-30.  Everard Bisnauth connected on trey as OW took a 23 point lead (71-48), their largest of the game, with 2:16 remaining.    

Tavon McNair registered his fourth double-double of the season to lead OW to victory.  McNair tallied 19 points and a career-high 18 rebounds (8 offensive) to go along with two steals.  Everard Bisnauth followed with a career-high 17 points off the bench, including knocking down 5-of-10 from three-point land.  Kerel Mitchell added 15 points and five steals (tied career-high) while Omari Trebuse contributed seven points and six steals (career-high). 

Brendon Henry paced NYU-Poly with 12 points and Eric Southworth added 10 off the bench.  Alex Westphal pulled down a team-high 13 boards to go along with three blocks.  

Old Westbury outshot NYU-Poly from the field 40 percent (26-65) to 37.5 percent (21-56).  Old Westbury connected on 8-of-22 from three-point range while NYU-Poly knocked down 7-of-23.  OW also enjoyed a 43-35 rebounding advantage, turning 20 offensive boards into 17 second chance points.  OW also converted 27 Fighting Blue Jay turnovers into 28 points.

ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I. GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the hardwood for a Skyline Conference battle on Thursday (Jan. 19) when they hit the road to take on the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles in Patchogue, New York.  Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m. inside the Danzi Center.
