www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team rolled past the Sage Gators 97-70 on the road Sunday in a Skyline Conference matchup in Troy, New York. Old Westbury improves to 9-7 on the season and 6-3 in conference action while Sage dropped to 7-9 and 3-7, respectively.
Old Westbury led wire-to-wire to notch a season sweeping victory over Sage.
Matthew Duffy sank a three-pointer to give Old Westbury an early double digit lead, 16-4 lead with 15:32 remaining on the first-half clock. Sage cut the deficit to single-digits when Jacob Sopchak and Michael Gallagher dropped in back-to-back layups to make it 19-12. Tavon McNair converted a pair of free-throws and
Omari Trebuse drained a three-pointer to give OW a double-digit lead for good, making it 24-12 with 10:09 showing on the first-half clock. Old Westbury took a 56-36 lead into the locker room.
Old Westbury took their largest lead of the game when
Rashawn McCarthy hit a trey with 2:41 remaining in the second half to make it 93-63.
Tavon McNair poured in a career-high 34 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the floor to go along with 16 rebounds to notch his third straight double-double.
Everard Bisnauth came off the bench to score 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from three-point land.
Omari Trebuse scored a career-high 14 points in addition to six assists and two steals.
Kerel Mitchell followed with 11 points and
Matthew Duffy chipped in with nine points, five rebounds and four assists.
Michael Gallagher and Pat Lanoue each scored 15 points to pace Sage in defeat. Matt Fabotko followed with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Mason Horne contributed eight points.
OW shot a blistering 58.3 percent (35-60) from the field and hit 16-of-29 three-point attempts. Sage hit 40 (26-65) from the field. Old Westbury outshot Sage from three-point range, 16-of-29 (55.2%) to 6-of-22 (27.3%). Old Westbury won the boards battle, holding a 37-32 advantage off the glass.
FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the hardwood for Skyline Conference action on Wednesday (Jan. 25) when they host the Farmingdale State Rams in Old Westbury, New York. Game time is set to tip at 8 p.m. inside the Clark Athletic Center.
