www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team fell 84-78 on the road to the Mount Saint Mary Knights in a Skyline Conference battle from the Kaplan Center on Saturday afternoon. The loss moves Old Westbury to 11-10 on the season and 8-6 against the conference while the Knights improved to 15-5 and 10-3, respectively.
Mount Saint Mary opened the game with a 9-0 which turned into an 18-4 lead with 8:45 remaining in the first half. Old Westbury battled back with a 17-4 run from 7:40 to 1:32 to pull within one, 22-21. Mount Saint Mary's Ryan Straub hit a three-pointer with 1:16 remaining to give the Knights a 25-21 advantage heading into the half.
Moments into the second-half, Mount Saint Mary built their lead back up to double-digit, holding 35-25 lead with 17:40 showing on the second-half clock. Old Westbury moved within seven points at 15:06 and again at 13:18, but Mount Saint Mary used a 13-5 run from 12:07 to 7:43 to take a 54-39 lead. Old Westbury's deficit proved to be too much to overcome as Mount Saint Mary held on for the 84-78 victory.
Rashawn McCarthy poured in a career-high 18 points to go with a personal best 11 rebounds to notch his first-career double-double to lead Old Westbury.
Jamal Little scored 16 bench points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field while
Kerel Mitchell followed with 11 points, five assists and three steals. Tavon McNair chipped in with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor.
Matthew Duffy added nine points and seven rebounds (season-high) of the bench.
Rodney Lewis contributed eight points, four assists and two steals.
Joe Stabach paced Mount Saint Mary with a game-high 29 points on 4-of-9 shooting from three-point territory. Kevin Milella and Chris Pisciotta followed with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Carlos Valdez grabbed a team-best eight boards.
Old Westbury outshot Mount Saint Mary from the field 41.3 percent (31-75) to 36.4 percent (20-55). Old Westbury connected on 8-of-28 from three-point land while Mount Saint Mary hit 7-of-27. Both teams drew even in rebounds, 41-41, while Old Westbury enjoyed a 14-13 edge off the offensive glass, scoring just eight second chance points. Mount Saint Mary converted 16 Panther turnovers into 15 points.
