OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –  The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team lost a close 5-3 extra inning affair to the second ranked Kean Cougars on Thursday afternoon from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The loss snapped Old Westbury's five game win streak and move to 5-3 on the season while Kean improves to 7-2.

Kean struck first in the third with a single by Steve Sanguiliano that scored Tyler Smarslok to break the scoring ice.  Old Westbury replied in the bottom of the third with a single up the middle by Anthony Orsano that scored Paul Valerio to knot the game at 1-1.  Old Westbury had four singles in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to capitalize as John Angelino was picked off and Brian Walsh was caught stealing, sending the game into extra frames.  Kean opened the tenth by Sanguiliano drawing a walk followed by Joe O'Connor being hit by the pitch. Both runners advanced on a double steal that set up Dylan Laguna's singled up the middle to score Sanguiliano.  Two batters later, Nick Ramagli lifted a sacrifice fly to center that scored O'Coner.  Laguna scored on a throwing error by Old Westbury catcher Anthony Orsano followed by Nick Zucchero crossed the plate on a wild pitch by Matthew Andress.  Old Westbury answered with two runs in the bottom of the tenth but were unable to overcome Kean's four spot in the top of the frame.  Paul Valerio and Brian Reutter opened with back-to-back singles and Orsano drew a walk to load the bases.  Angelino was hit by the pitch to score Valerio and a balk advanced the runners, scoring Reutter.

Paul Valerio extended his hit streak to eight games with a 3-for-4 game at the plate to go along with two runs scored and two stolen bases.  John Angelino (2-4, RBI) and Chris DeGennaro (2-5) both registered multiple hits while Brian Walsh both extended his eight game hit streak with a 1-for-4 game.  D.J. Breckenridge doubled and went 3-for-5 to lead Kean.  Eddie Jennings (2-3, 2 BB) and Nick Ramagli (2-4, RBI) added multiple hits for the Cougars.

Tim Walsh pitched eight strong innings but did not factor into the decision for Old Westbury, striking out two while giving up just one run on 10 hits and two walks.  Stephen Chapter and Matthew Andress both work an inning in relief, combining for three earned runs off one hit and three walks.  Kean starter Mike Russo lasted three innings before Ryan Zamorsky worked the next 5.2 scoreless frames, scattering eight hits.  Chris Cirlincione recorded two outs to pick up the win, improving to 1-1 on the season.  Steve Sanguiliano notched his first save of the season by retiring both Panthers he faced.

Old Westbury prevented their opposition from outhitting them for the eighth straight game, holding a 12-11 edge over Kean.  Kean left 12 Cougars on base while Old Westbury stranded nine Panthers.  Kean held a 5-3 advantage in stolen bases.  Old Westbury struck out four batters and walked five compared to Kean's seven strikeouts and three walks.
