www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team fell 6-5 to the Sage Gators in the opener before taking the finale, 12-8, in Skyline Conference action Sunday afternoon from Robison Field. Old Westbury (6-10) picked up their first conference win of the season, improving to 1-3, while snapping Sage's (16-5) 13-game win streak, moving them to 5-1.
Old Westbury took an early three run advantage off the power of
Alyssa Clancy's three-run homer in the opening frame.
Marissa Brightman and Clancy stroked run scoring singles in the fourth to give Old Westbury a 5-0 lead. Sage answered in the fourth with Tricia Gaulin's run scoring double followed by Samantha Woitkoski's single that scored one to make it a 5-2 game. Sage closed the gap with Hillary Faas's solo home run that brought the Gators within two in the fifth. Sage tied the game in the sixth with Kelsey Newberg's two run single and won the game in the seventh off Kristen Beikirch's walk off homer to center field.
Samantha Siegler's (3-3, R, BB) three hits paced Old Westbury while
Alyssa Clancy (2-4, R) drove in a team-best four runs.
Marissa Brightman (2-5, 2 R, RBI) and
Lauren Isaac (2-4) followed with multiple hits. Tricia Gaulin went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubled to lead Sage to victory. Kelsey Newberg (2-4, 2 RBI), Hillary Faas (2-4, HR) and Samantha Woitkoski (2-3, RBI, R) added multiple hits for the Gators while Kristen Beikirch (1-4, HR) scored two runs.
Alyssa Clancy (2-6) fanned eight and was charged with the loss after serving up six runs (five earned) off 12 hits and one walk. Kelsey Newberg (9-2) struck out seven to pick up Sage's win, despite giving up five runs off 13 hits and two walks.
Old Westbury held the advantage in hits (13-12) and stolen bases (1-0), while Sage tallied four extra base hits to Old Westbury's three. Sage also committed four errors as Old Westbury had one.
In the finale, Old Westbury scored first off a wild pitch that brought home
Jennifer Jean and finished with the game two victory to earn the split. Sage answered with six runs over the opening three innings to take a 6-3 lead. Old Westbury scored two-runs in the third inning off
Marissa Brightman's sacrifice fly that scored
Nicole Petrucci and allowed
Jennifer Jean to score off an error by center fielder Tiffany Bezio. Jean tied the game in the fourth at six-all with a three-run double. Sage took back an 8-6 lead with Rachel Smith's double followed by a single off the bat of Kelsey Newberg that drove in single runs in the fifth. Old Westbury tied the game in the sixth when
Jessica Spero and
Alex Heaney scored off Petrucci's single. Brightman delivered the game-winning two-run double in the seventh to send Heaney and Petrucci home for the go ahead runs.
Samantha Siegler followed with a two-run double of her own to make it a 12-8 game.
Deborah Ciccarelli retired the Gators one-two-three in the seventh to preserve the victory for Old Westbury.

Samantha Siegler (2-5, 2 RBI) fueled Old Westbury's offensive attack with multiple hits, including a pair of doubles by Jean and Siegler.
Nicole Petrucci (1-1) added three runs scored, two RBI and drew three walks while
Jessica Spero scored twice and
Marissa Brightman (1-3, R) drove in three runs. Rachel Smith (2-5, 3 R, RBI), Kelsey Newberg (2-5, RBI, R) and Tiffany Bezio (2-4, 2 RBI, R) led the Gators with multiple hits.
Deborah Ciccarelli (4-4) struck out four in Old Westbury's victory, while surrendering eight runs (seven earned) off 11 hits and six walks. Kelsey Newberg (9-3) suffered the loss for Sage, giving up four runs off three hits and four walks in two innings of relief.
Sage outhit the Panthers, 11-8, while both team tallied five extra base hits. Sage's Kristen Beikirch stole the lone base on the game.
