OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team split a Skyline Conference doubleheader with the visiting St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles at home Saturday afternoon from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury took the opener, 4-1, before St. Joseph's-L.I. won the finale, 10-6.  Old Westbury (21-9) now stands at 8-4 in conference play while St. Joseph's-L.I. (16-14) moved to 10-2. 

Old Westbury starter Tim Walsh found himself in an early jam, facing bases loaded with one out in the second, he crafted back-to-back grounders to escape the inning unscaved.  St. Joseph's-L.I. took a brief 1-0 lead off Brian Hannigan's one-out single that scored Anthony Delury for the games initial run.  Old Westbury answered in the bottom of the third with three straight singles to open the frame, including Paul Valerio's two-run single that scored the game-tying and go-ahead runs.  Following back-to-back stolen bases by Valerio, Brian Reutter lifted a sacrifice fly out to right field to make it a 3-1 game.  Reutter singled in Blake Barbeito in the seventh for an insurance run as Old Westbury cushioned their lead to 4-1.

Blake Barbeito pounded out his second three-hit game of the year, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three stolen bases.  Paul Valerio (1-4, 2 RBI, R, 2 SB) and Brian Reutter (1-2, BB 2 RBI) drove in two runs apiece.  Steve Mare's 12-game hit streak came to an end after going 0-for-3 at the plate.  Anthony Delury (2-4, R) and Brian Hannigan (2-4, RBI) paced St. Joseph's-L.I. with multiple hits.   

Tim Walsh (4-3) bulldogged his was to victory, pitching his first complete game of the season by logging nine innings, allowing one run off seven hits and three walks.  Walsh fanned three batters.  Jason Dierkes (3-3) took the loss for St. Joseph's-L.I., serving up four runs off nine hits and two walks in eight innings of work.      

Old Westbury jumped ahead with an early Anthony Orsano sacrifice fly to score Paul Valerio for a 1-0 first-inning lead.  St. Joseph's-L.I. answered to tie the game in the second when Mike Alisio drew a bases loaded walk by Chris Sanabria to score Seth Pileggi.  Old Westbury reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the second as Steve Mare stole third and advanced home on a throwing error by St. Joseph's-L.I. catcher Mike Alisio.  St. Joseph's-L.I. added two more runs in the third and one in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead, ending Old Westbury starter Chris Sanabria's outing.  Old Westbury replied in the fifth with four runs to take a 6-4 lead.  Brian Walsh drove in three off a triple followed by Christopher DeGennaro's triple that scored Walsh.  St. Joseph's-L.I. matched Old Westbury with four runs in the sixth to jump ahead 8-6 and tacked on two more in the seventh for a 10-6 victory. 

J.C. Costa (1-1) was dealt Old Westbury's loss, giving up four runs off three hits and three walks over two innings of relief.  In total, Old Westbury used four pitchers, tallying three strikeouts and eight walks.  Jonathan Beekman (1-0) earned the Golden Eagle victory, throwing 2.2 innings of 2-hit ball, striking out four Old Westbury batters. 

Blake Barbeito added his third multi-hit game over the past four outings, going 2-for-4 (2B, SB) at the plate.  Brian Walsh recorded his team-leading ninth multi-RBI game, driving in three to go 1-for-4 with one run scored, extending his hit-streak to six games.  Anthony Delury (3-5, RBI, R) led St. Joseph's-L.I. with three hits as Prateek Thama (2-2, RBI, R), Seth Pileggi (2-4, RBI, 2 R) and Kenny Willms (2-4, RBI) followed with multiple hits. 

NYU-POLY FIGHTING BLUE JAYS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the diamond for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Sunday (Apr. 15) from Floyd Bennett Field against the NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays.  First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. in Brooklyn, New York.
