PANTHER BASEBALL CLAWS PAST NYU-POLY IN SKYLINE CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER

BROOKLYN, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team won a pair of Skyline Conference games on the road Sunday afternoon against the NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays, collecting 21-9 and 17-4 victories from Floyd Bennett Field.  Old Westbury (23-9) improved to 10-4 in conference action while sending NYU-Poly's (3-25) conference record to 1-9. 

Old Westbury's Brian Reutter delivered the opening blow; stroking a run-scoring single to plate home Paul Valerio in the opening frame.  NYU-Poly retaliated by launching a 6-run strike in the bottom of the first off Old Westbury starter Ryan Bresnahan.  Old Westbury took a 9-8 lead with a seven run fifth inning, tallying six hits, including back-to-back run scoring doubles by Brian Reutter and Anthony Orsano followed by John Angelino's 2-run homer.  Old Westbury scored eight more runs in the sixth off four hits and five errors as Brian Walsh clubbed a 2-run triple to score Orsano and Angelino for the game-winning runs.  Old Westbury tacked on four more in the seventh to earn a 21-9 run rule victory. 

Ryan Bresnahan (4-2) tossed six innings to pick up Old Westbury's win, striking out two while allowing nine runs (six earned) off 13 hits. Anthony Finch took NYU-Poly's game one loss, serving up 17 runs (five earned) off 15 hits and four walks over six innings. 

Brian Reutter banged out three hits and drove in three runs to lead Old Westbury's offensive attack.  Paul Valerio (2-4, 3 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB), Anthony Orsano (2-5, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB), John Angelino (2-3, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB) and Steve Mare (2-3, RBI, R, SB) followed with multiple hits while Blake Barbeito (1-3, 3 R, 2 SB) scored three runs.  Julian Santulli paced NYU-Poly with a 3-for-4 game at the plate, including three RBI's and two runs scored.  Tyler Do (2-4, 2 RBI) and Jeffrey Burdier (2-4, 2 R) posted multiple hits.

In the finale, NYU-Poly jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a single gone bad as Jeffrey Burdier scored off an error by center fielder Paul Valerio in the first inning.  Two innings later, Old Westbury answered to the tune of five runs off three hits and three errors.  Anthony Orsano doubled to drive in Brian Reutter to knot the game at 1-all and four batters later, Pat Amato lifted a sacrifice fly out to center field to score Christopher DeGennaro for the eventual game-winning run

Starter Frank DiMaria pitched his way to a 4-0 record Sunday by striking out three NYU-Poly batters and shelling out three runs (two earned) off seven hits and one walk.  Julian Santulli was tapped for 17 runs (12 earned) off 15 hits and five walks in seven innings to take the NYU-Poly loss.

Christopher DeGennaro's (2-3, 3 RBI, 4 R) four runs scored and Pat Amato's (2-3, 5 RBI) five RBI's led Old Westbury while contributing multi-hits to go along with Jacob Coners (2-4, 2 RBI, 2 R), Brian Reutter (2-3, RBI, 2 R) and Brian Walsh's (2-3, 3 R) two-hit performances.  Anthony Orsano and John Angelino added two steals apiece.  Tyler Do hit a solo homer and finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored to lead NYU-Poly.  Julian Santulli followed with a 2-for-3 game, scoring one run.             

BARUCH BEARCATS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the diamond for a non-conference affair on Thursday (Apr. 19) from MCU Park against the Baruch Bearcats.  First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. in Brooklyn, New York.
