PANTHER BASEBALL DONE IN BY SIX HOMERS AGAINST STEVENS

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –  The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team dropped a 14-2 decision on the road to the Stevens Ducks on Senior Day from Dobbelaar Field in Hoboken, New Jersey.  The loss moves Old Westbury to 29-12 on the season while Stevens improved to 21-16. 

Old Westbury took an early advantage with a two-run first inning off starter Kevin Matthews.  Paul Valerio singled and stole second to lead off the game, followed by Steve Mare drawing a walk.  Anthony Orsano reached on a fielding error by shortstop Tyler Courter, advancing Valerio home for the games initial run.  John Angelino stepped to the plate next and doubled Old Westbury's advantage with a run-scoring double to plate home Mare. 

Stevens replied with solo home runs in the opening three innings off Old Westbury starter Chris Sanabria.  Matt Glassman homered in the first and third innings while Tyler Courter went deep in the second to give the Ducks a 3-2 lead. 

Sanabria retired his next six batters before giving up a two-run home run off the bat of Michael Donovan and a run-scoring double by Ryan Kiczek in the sixth.  OW reliever James Roubal took over and gave up three runs (two unearned) in the sixth as Tom Phillips blasted a two-run homer and Kiczek scored on a throwing error by catcher Christopher DeGennaro

Stevens tacked on run-scoring singles in the seventh off pitchers Roubal and Matthew Andress to take an 11-2 advantage.  Andress dealt out a three-run homer in the eighth to TJ Alcorn, making it a 14-2 game. 

Paul Valerio (2-4, R, 2 SB, BB) extended his hit streak to 12 games, registering a pair of singles and stole two bases to pace Old Westbury's offense.  Christopher DeGennaro's (1-4) single in the sixth pushed his hit streak to eight games.  Anthony Orsano's career-high 14-game hit streak ended with an 0-for-4 game at the plate.

Ryan Kiczek (3-4, 2 RBI, R, 2B, SB), banged out a game-best three hits for Stevens while TJ Alcorn (2-5, HR, 3 RBI), Matt Glassman (2-5, 2 HR), Michael Donovan (2-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R), Tom Phillips (1-5, 2-R HR) and Tyler Courter (2-4, HR, 2 R) clubbed home runs.      

Old Westbury's Chris Sanabria (3-2) suffered his second straight loss and was charged with seven runs (six earned) off nine hits including four home runs in 5.1 innings of work. Relievers James Roubal and Matthew Andress combined to give up seven runs (six earned) on four hits (two home runs) and four walks in 2.2 innings. 

Kevin Matthews registered four strikeouts in six innings to earn the win for the Ducks.  Chris Tucci, Vincent Cinci, Jeffrey Hart and John Martelle held off the Panthers with three innings of scoreless relief. 

BARUCH BEARCATS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the diamond for a non-conference battle against the Baruch Bearcats on Sunday (May 6) in Old Westbury, New York.  First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
