NEW YORK, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team returned back to the court for Skyline Conference tri-match at the Arc Arena Sunday afternoon. The Panthers earned a 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-22) sweep over the Yeshiva Maccabees (0-2, 0-2) before a five set comeback attempt fell just short against the Farmingdale State Rams (6-16, 3-0), with set scores of 18-25, 12-25, 26-24, 25-21 and 10-15. With the split, Old Westbury (4-10) now stands at 1-2 on the season in conference action.
Kimberly Catania combined 15 kills and 13 assists to rack up her 26th double-double of the season in addition to serving up a match high four aces. Rayn Brown captained the offense with 16 assists to go with seven kills. Jocelyn Small hit .350 with 10 kills and 13 digs to collect her third double-double of her career. Allie Giancola scooped up 13 digs in addition to serving up three of Old Westbury's 10 aces on the match.
Emily Rohan directed Yeshiva's offense with a match-high 19 assists while Kerrin Ast and Marjorie Rasinovsky each nailed six kills.
The first set proved to be the Panthers best set of the match, hitting .391 (13 kills-4 errors-23 total attacks) while holding Yeshiva to just nine points with a -.053 hitting percentage (3 kills-4 errors-19 total attacks).
Old Westbury finished the match hitting .183 (35 kills-18 errors-93 total attacks) as the Maccabees hit .057 (25 kills-20 errors-88 total attacks).
Catania went for her second double-double of the day in the finale against Farmingdale State, finishing with 13 kills and 19 assists while serving up seven aces. Small also contributed 11 kills and 11 digs in a double-double effort. Brown nailed down a career-best 16 kills as she collected her second career double-double by dishing out 14 assists. Giancola led the defense with 22 digs and Samantha Howley chipped in with 12.
Sarah Palladino paced Farmingdale State with a 10 ace-11 kill double-double. Megan Pisciotta's 43 assists captained the offense while Francesca Calderon's 21 digs led the defense.
After dropping the opening sets, Old Westbury roared back to force a fifth set. Old Westbury took a quick 3-0 lead in the fifth set before Brown smashed her 16th kill to give the Panthers its final lead of the match at 8-7. Farmingdale State replied with an 8-2 run to close out the match for the fifth set victory.
In the end, Old Westbury hit .140 (44 kills-27 errors-121 total attacks) compared to Farmingdale State, which hit .197 (50 kills-24 errors-132 total attacks). Farmingdale State served up 20 aces in total, tied for the most by an opponent against Old Westbury in 2013.
