OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team defeated the visiting Yeshiva Maccabees Friday morning to earn a Skyline Conference sweep from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Panthers won 30-1 in the opener and completed the sweep with a 16-0 game two victory.  Old Westbury (10-11) jumps to 5-1 in conference action while sending Yeshiva (2-10) to 1-3.

Game One: Old Westbury 30, Yeshiva 1
Old Westbury scored in every inning in the opener, including 15 runs in the bottom of the second to breeze past Yeshiva, 30-1. The game ended in seven innings because of the 10-run conference rule. The last time Old Westbury posted 30 runs in a game was back on March 28, 2011, when they swept NYU-Poly, 30-1 and 30-0.

Seven Old Westbury players recorded multiple-hit games as part of a 21-hit attack. Robert Crocitto went 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, and swiped two bases.  Brian Walsh batted 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Thomas Whitenack finished 3-for-3, including two doubles and three runs scored as a sub.

Alexander Abanavas recorded a game-high five RBI and three runs scored in six plate appearances and Steve Mare batted 2-for-2 with four RBI. Paul Valerio and Joseph Walsh both went 2-for-3 in the game with three RBI each and Valerio stole three bases.

Old Westbury flexed their offensive muscles in the bottom of the second to break the game open.  In the Panthers' frame, they sent 20 batters to the dish, batted around twice, and had their first 16 batters reach base before an out was recorded. Peter Romeo walked to lead off the inning, stole both second and third base, and crossed the plate on a Yeshiva fielding error, giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Abanavas, Joseph Walsh, and Valerio each laced two-RBI singles to account for six of the remaining 14 runs in the home second.

Old Westbury starting pitcher James Roubal allowed one run on two hits, did not allow a walk, and fanned 14 batters in five innings pitched for his second win of the season. James Wipperman and James Scagnelli closed the game out in relief, by pitching the sixth and seventh innings respectively.  Scagnelli's walk in seventh inning ended Old Westbury's streak of 35 innings without handed out a free pass.

Game Two: Old Westbury 16, Yeshiva 0
Tyler Kapela (2-1) earned the win after bringing a no-hitter into the fifth inning, where Jaron Pacht's single with one out accounted for Yeshiva's lone hit of the game.  Kapela fanned five while Tyler Levine and Matthew Andress tossed perfect sixth and seventh frames.

Brian Walsh and Eddie Hernandez each had three hits in the win to pace Old Westbury.  Leading 7-0 in the fourth, Old Westbury posted eight run to jump ahead 15-0.  Walsh drove in two off a fourth inning inside the ballpark home run and finished the game with four runs scored, two doubles and two stolen bases.  Jonathan Pagan (2-3, 2 RBI, 2 R) also unleashed a run scoring triple in the big fourth inning.

Jeremy Delgado opened the scoring gates in the first inning, singling home Brian Walsh for the games initial run.  Pagan followed wit  an RBI double and John Angelino closed out the first inning scoring with a run scoring single.

Old Westbury finished with six players recording multiple hits as the Panthers held an 18-1 hitting edge.

Yeshiva's Jonathan Gardner (0-1) was saddled with the loss, surrendering 15 runs (13 earned) on 15 hits in 3.2 innings of work.
