@OW_Panthers Baseball settles for Skyline Conference split at St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Old Westbury outhits St. Joseph’s-L.I. 23-12 in two-game series

PATCHOGUE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team hit the road to take on the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles in a Skyline Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon from Greg Alfano Field.  The Panthers took game one, 8-7, while the Golden Eagles mounted a 3-2 come from behind win in the finale to split the series.  Old Westbury (11-12) now stands at 6-2 in conference play while St. Joseph's-L.I. (9-11) moves to 5-1.

Old Westbury's offense erupted for seven runs on nine consecutive hits to open the second inning.  John Angelino tripled to open the frame and scored on a single by Peter Romeo for the games initial run.  Brandon Stein and Brian Walsh each singled to drive in two in the big inning. 

St. Joseph's-L.I. sliced the deficit to one after scoring two in the fourth, one in the fifth and three more in the sixth on seven hits and two errors off starter Arismendy NunezStephen Chapter recorded the final out in the sixth in relief of Nunez to escape out of the jam. 

Old Westbury tacked on a single run in the ninth by scoring Jeremy Delgado off Jonathan Pagan's triple.  Old Westbury closer Alex DiSanto had to work to earn his fifth save of the season, recording four outs despite uncorking three wild pitches, walking two and hitting one.  In the ninth, DiSanto dealt out a leadoff walk to Dan Diblasi and three wild pitches later scored before inducing an infield groundout to end the threat. 
      
Arismendy Nunez (2-4) pitched good enough to earn his second win of the season, striking out three in 5.2 innings, while giving up six runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks.  Jonathan Beekman (1-2) took the loss as Old Westbury lit him up for seven run on 10 hits in two innings of work. 

Brian Walsh produced his third career four-hit game, finishing 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored.  Jonathan Pagan slugged his team-leading fourth triple to highlight a 3-for-4 game, including two RBI.  Jeremy Delgado (2-5, 2 R, SB) and John Angelino (2-5, R) chipped in with multiple hits while Jacob Coners (1-2, R, BB) swept two bases. 

Brian Hennigan (2-4, 2 R), Anthony Andreani (2-4, R) and Vincent Reda (2-5, RBI, R) contributed multiple hits for St. Joseph's-L.I. 

Old Westbury held a 16-9 hitting edge while the pitchers allowed a season-high seven walks.

John Angelino stroked his second triple of the season and later scored on a Peter Romeo RBI groundout to break the scoring ice for Old Westbury in the second inning.  Old Westbury starter Tim Walsh tossed a perfect four innings until Dan Diblasi ended his bid with a leadoff single in the fifth.  Three batters later, Diblasi scored on a throwing error by third baseman Brian Walsh

Old Westbury answered in the sixth with a leadoff Brian Walsh triple.  Two batters later, Pagan scored Walsh on a sacrifice fly out to right field to push the Panthers ahead, 2-1. 

Walsh took a one-hitter into the seventh and suffered a hard luck loss with a pair of RBI singles, including Andreani's walk-off base hit to score Hanningan for the game-winner.      

Dan Diblasi (3-1) went the distance to pick up the victory after giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks.  Tim Walsh (1-3) took Old Westbury's loss, surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks. 

Brian Walsh (2-2, 3B, R, BB) extended his hitting streak to six games and produced Old Westbury's team-leading 11th multi-hit game of the season as the Panthers held a 7-3 hitting advantage.  John Angelino (2-3, 3B, R) followed with his ninth multi-hit game of the season. 

RUTGERS-NEWARK SCARLET RAIDERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the diamond on Tuesday (April 9) at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to take on the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders in a non-conference battle from Newark Bears Stadium in Newark, New Jersey.
