POMONA, NJ
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - .The eighth-seeded SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team traveled to take on the top-seeded Richard Stockton Ospreys in the opening round of the ECAC Metro Region Championship Tournament Wednesday afternoon in Pomona, New Jersey.  Richard Stockton crossed the plate in the fourth inning for the lone run of the game, ending Old Westbury's season with a 19-18 record.  The Ospreys (31-11) advance to host the four-team double elimination portion of the tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Old Westbury starter Alyssa Clancy got out of an early jam in the second inning.  Clancy dealt out three consecutive singles and then a heads up play by right fielder Alex Heaney kept the Ospreys off the scoreboard.  Heaney fielded a fly out and doubled up Rachel Forte at home on an attempted tag up.

Old Westbury produced scoring chances throughout the game, despite recording two hits on the day.  In the second, fourth and sixth innings, Richard Stockton starter Michelle Pietrocola stranded Panthers at first and second base.
With two outs and Heather Corica on third base, Nicole Chabak singled to center field to push across Corica for the game-winning run.

Richard Stockton loaded up the bases in the sixth and Clancy and the Panther defense once again denied the Ospreys.  Nicole Tomo reached on a fielder's choice as Justine Reed was thrown out at home by third baseman Jacqui Alvarado for the second out.  Clancy then struck out Nichole Terreri to end the inning.

Heaney (1-3) opened the seventh inning with a double to end Pietrocola's outing.  Brittany Ksiezopolski took over and fanned Jessica Spero before Jessica Colucci reached first on a fielder's choice that advanced Heaney over to third.  Ksiezopolski then dialed up Samantha Howley on strikes and retired Nicole Petrucci to earn her first save of the season.

Clancy (19-17) sat down two batters on strikes and stranded 10 Ospreys on base in her final start of her career.  Clancy allowed the lone run of the game on nine hits and three walks in six innings of work.  Pietrocola (16-6) fanned 10 batters and scattered two hits and four walks to claim victory.

Alvarado (1-2) broke Old Westbury into the hit column in the sixth inning with a single.  Corrica (2-3) registered two of Richard Stockton's nine hits on the day.
